Well, small, difficulty, and points are all able to change, toroid is kind of needed with five people if you want everyone to interact with everyone.

After giving this some discussion with my team, I'd like to petition for alteration to the point system/map-setting.
There's not really a lot of choice here, IMO - you're basically forced to take ORG or Sumeria or both to deal with the likely maintenance settings. If you wanted India you'd essentially be forced to Chm/Imp or something in which case you might as well just say India is banned. I like the idea of a points system which creates interesting choices for the players, not which forces the players down a path of sufficiently "indie" to suit the lurkers.
Ultimately, I'd like to see the difficulty level reduced to at least prince (and I'd be okay with noble even) and a reroll on the points system to allow for more options for the players.

Here, here! What's wrong with noble? What's wrong with fun? Why do we have to have small empires and be punished for settling cities all the time! Let us have a big playground! Let us roam open areas and settle far from our capitals without fear of tyrannical maintenance! Let us pick from a large bounty! Let us not be confined to another game of PBEM 29... VIVA LA EMPIRÈ!

What if we don't want to interact with everyone? Why can't we do a map like the great plains and no wrap at all! How cool would that be.

BTW quick example: PBEM 4 looked fun to play.

I don't mind high maintenance settings, I don't think they are a big deal. I will agree that ORG seems the most underpriced here, and I think that whoever picks first in this setup gets a big advantage. If it were the same but ORG cost one more, I wouldn't complain.

Eh, I was about to say I doth protest too much but I think actually I doth protest too little. When I first posted the game proposal I mentioned a game between players of similar skill to myself where maybe Pacal of India wouldn't be out of place. Now I'm facing a Sisyphus-like task against the two best players on the site, plus two other very, very good ones on an oppressive map where the winner is probably going to be playing Zara of Germany or some shit. Its just not what I was looking for. I've folded on just about everything because I've been trying to be decent to everyone but I just don't think this is the game I wanted anymore. It seems like all the complaining is coming from my team though so might be easier if I just see if one of my teammates wants to take the helm here and replace me.

Here's the thing though Seven. You love puzzles. So this point system is like a puzzle. An original snake pick used to be about picking a style you wanted to play, now we're forced to try and "game the pick". I know it appeals to you, but at the same time it forces us to pick from a much smaller grouping searching for the "right" answer.

Don't blame me, I joined the game thinking there would be no pick restrictions. My post was in response to Gaspar saying he thought players had no choice but to pick ORG or Sumeria. I don't think that's true.
Hm, looking over the various teams' leader/civ restriction votes, ZERO teams expressed a preference for having leader/civ restrictions. Mackoti and I said whatever. No Shoot For The Mooned had a mild vote for no restrictions. Gaspar and company expressed an extremely mild preference for no restrictions in their vote, as far as I can tell. So why are we even still discussing this?
