[SPOILERS] Lewger goes for the Bigwyn

you need 4 points of data:

visibility on the city
espionage points the other team has against you (main screen or foreign screen)
cost to investigate the city (espionage screen)
cost to sabotage production in the city (espionage screen)

hammers in production queue = integer (SABOTAGE COST * (100 + ESPIONAGE POINTS)) / (INVESTIGATE CITY * 3)

I believe that whips go into the box immediately - like the UI shows, but chops will only come in at the end of turn - so they'd be missing. Overflow from the chops would show next turn though.

ok. still, the whip probably has overflow. so that could be an archer, spear, or chariot, depending on when he whipped. but with the chop there's a good chance we'll see another one the following turn.

I really would like to know what he's whipping. I wish Scooter would hurry and PHFT frown.

They are chariots I'm betting. He got AH and hooked up horses just now. Whipped 3 chariots and chopped a forest into the capital for another. We are in range of two next turn. There's a coinflips chance we lose both Ajaxs next turn, and then he'll 1 turn another chariot in the cap. We're facing 4 chariots with worker building roads in the next two turns at least.

I think we need to raze Billy then stalemate him for a few turns while we build the settler, offer white peace, settle the IRON under his nose, whip spears and build enough defense to be safe enough to expand again. Going to be tough, he has more production than us.

yes I was thinking exactly that. I was just waiting to see if it was chariots or spears before forming a plan.

just make sure to offer a peace treaty and not a ceasefire wink.

as for the production, grassland iron + gold city will help a lot.. and he'll have to rebuild 2 settlers and 2 workers, hehe. but yes he'll still have more production.

ok, so we're up against chariots. little bit of a relief.

Im not sure it would be wise for azza to attack out to Lesser Ajax. its a coinflip, and if he loses he only has a warrior defending. we would get a promotion, and probably would have like 30% odds to raze his capital, or we could bring two injured but promoted chariots, one full heal chariot, and a warrior within striking distance next turn. right now he is scrambling and just trying to save himself.
In fact, it was foolish to strike out with his warrior. sucks that we lost the coinflip, but the warrior to warrior trade benefited us. with his cultural borders and on the hill, warriors are actually slightly better defenders than chariots.

ok, we have enough gold to finish iron working and then some. probably i should have ran it at 50% instead of 0 frown. anyway we complete in 7 turns. we can squeeze that to 6 by emphasizing commerce in the capital instead of hammers. that would mean the chariot takes 2 turns to complete instead of 1. but we also have a forest with one chop-action into it that could complete a second chariot the turn after that, and we could ensure the road SE of gilgamesh was completed in time. But its not worth it, because:

if we have 1 worker move S of the iliad to chop we can complete the chop in 4 turns, whip on 5th turn, then get settler to the roaded desert tile in 7 turns, settle in 8. ok, so shaving a turn off IW doesnt benefit us too much if we're settling iron in first ring, which we have to. if we have both workers chop the same forest, then whip after the chop, we should be able to settle iron city in 7 turns, same turn IW comes in. perfect. as long as we have the workers handy we should be able to whip a spear in theodyssey and start trickling them down from the capital in 8-9ish turns.

where will we plant the next city? (name TBD)?

birds of tokyo was planted where diomedes the chariot currently is. the iron that we can't see at the moment is one tile west.

if we were at peace either desert tile would be suitable. the east is better, hooking up gold and rice, but we just can't wait 10 turns for Iron.
the west is uses a worthless desert tile and has iron in first ring, but rice and gold both will be in second ring.

the only other option really is the original spot that azza chose. it has rice and iron in first ring, but its right on azza's cultural borders and it would take us awhile to get the culture to push him back, I think? so the western desert tile may be safest, although keeping the rice may be delicate.

anyway, this turn, i think: 1. helen and penelope have to move together to chop one of the forests near the iliad
2. chariot out of gilgamesh will again lose .5 movement, but cassandra might as well move to build that damn road so the next one won't
3. briseis finishes the road on the rice. I would love to have the forest SW of that roaded as well, but I'm not sure that spot is secure from chariots??
4. ishtar and chryseis start mining the roaded hill on odysseus, so we can finally get some production out of that city that doesnt involve whipping (we still have 16 turns of whip anger)

military: well, whatever the situation calls for after azza moves :/.

turn 68 demos, with max science:
the hefty gnp lead is despite the fact that the capital is configured for hammers, not commerce. its working a 1-3-1 grassland mine and a -0-3-0 PFH over a riverside grassland cottage and the seafood (4-0-2) tile. hopefully that won't last too long.
the #1 MFG is azza, of course, but we aren't that far behind considering we only have one hammer city. we will soon pick up 6 hammers in theodyssey (2 grassland hills that need to be mined) and 7 hammers in new iron/gold city (4 from iron, 3 from gold). so we could very well be ahead of him in MFG 10 turns from now.

power demos, before azza's whips:

random stuff:
-serdoa still only has 2 cities, eek.
-our capital fell to #3, most likely due to hammer emphasis
-we are 9 turns from gaining research visibility on azza. Serdoa has long since ceased putting EP's into us, meaning we can keep graphs on him and -put them all into Azza.
-Odysseus the scout was again attacked by a warrior in the woods and survived. this time he's at .4/1 health, meaning we healed for 6 turns, made one movement (2 spaces in forest thanks to woody 2) and now get to wait another 7 turns. yay for scouting!

Is there a good reason for not settling on the Iron? Is would be a crappy city, but secure an important resource on a difficult border.

If you don't fancy that I'd go for western desert...

And I wish I'd been watching you type up that report Lewwyn - how many keyboards do you get through a year?

it loses the gold AND doesnt get the rice until second ring.. so yeah i'd be pretty crappy.

I guess we could always settle the wine/cow city on the east coast to pick up the gold later, but the gold is as critical to our economy as the iron is to our defense, so i'd rather not put it off.

and really, if we can build one spear to defend the iron, we're golden. that iron should be azza's only source of metal smile.

so.... I see waterbat logged in during azza's whole turn.. I guess you got a good view of his actions, so give us a report. Especially since I can't log in to see what he did until you log out wink.
