ForWarper is as ready as I feel motivated to make him. He has finished all the quests except killing Sydonai.

In the meantime, I have been having a wonderful time playing ShadowWtch. She is still a 'support summoner' but she is clvl 30 now and happily wielding a very nifty Harp Rifle that cb-13 mailed to her. I can't think of any more useful gun for her style than one that stops the baddies in their tracks, allows her three (THREE) additional kinds of minions and plus three to Hand of Nostrum.

Edit: She just cruised her way along through all of Spud's quest handily, took the trip to St. Paul's Cathedral and roasted the Five Discords with relative ease and then Sydonai jumped right on her head and stomped hard. duh Ouch!

Santa Clara, Calif., (October 24, 2008) - NAMCO BANDAI Games America Inc., today announced that they will continue to support customers of PC game Hellgate™: London with online server support and play through January 31, 2009 despite the closure of Flagship Studios. 3 months till they pull the plug on the online server. If we want to finish any quests on multi player thats the amount of time to get it done in.

Hanbitsoft speaks out

This update from Hanbitsoft's PR department carries a 10/26/08 date.

It confirms that Hanbit acquired the IP and will continue game development.

It does not mention the direction the game may take, so there is still some waiting to do but i would look for news soon.

In addition, the Korean Hellgate Website has posted in English a headline that suggests that the re-launch of the game is in the works. Courtesy of HellgateGuru

The rumors I hear are that this is being "re-sold" to an Asian audience as an online-only game. Act 1 and maybe 2 would be free for anyone to download and play, and you'd have to pay for access to later levels, and an unknown other number of features. They may or may not bother with localization to western auidences. Until you hear otherwise, I'd probably expect existing characters and subscriptions to vanish in Jan.

Former Blizzard director Bill Roper, whose most recent stint was co-founder and CEO of the now-defunct Flagship Studios (Hellgate: London), has joined Cryptic Studios. According to the press release, Roper will serve as Design Director for the upcoming superhero-infused MMO, Champions Online.

In an interview with GameDaily, Roper said his first order of business is to dig "deeply" into Champions Online. "There's a lot of fantastic stuff here, and we'll focus on figuring out what's working, what needs some polish and rethinking other things." CO is currently in production for PC and Xbox 360 with a tentative Spring 2009 launch, although given the timing of Roper's hire and from what he said in the interview, we wonder if that'll be pushed back.

An application for the CO beta is currently available. Cryptic Studios is also currently working on Star Trek Online, due out sometime late next year. bang

I don't know if that's good news for Champions Online or not...

Smells like smoke, the question is whether it's the good stuff. [Image: huh.gif]

A little more clarity from an official FAQ.

Apparantly, Hanbitsoft only has the right to service in non-Japan Asia. Namco-Bandai retains rights for Japan, Europe, and the US... and they don't seem to have plans to do anything with them.

I've been looking at that franchise from time to time. The thing stopping me cold from getting into City of Heroes was the subscription model and now with Champions Online drawing nearer I'm wondering what business model the new entry is going to adopt...

I don't suppose that there is any interest around RB concerning Champions Online?

If there was (for myself), Bill Roper steered me away from it.

On a side note, I think his story how he got involved with the game sounded too much like a publicity scheme.

Ouch. That's a loaded statement. Is this sentiment due to his handling of Hellgate London or something going back to his time with (or splitting from) Blizzard?
