Here is the most beautiful city I have ever seen:
that
I renamed it to Beowulf. Seems somewhat appropriate (although if anyone knows of an epic where an important city was conquered from another.. other than the Iliad, that we've already used).. The Aenid is next in logical order but that should be a coastal civ.. maybe silver city. I really hope Azza didn't log in to see "OMGYES" as a city name, I don't want to rub it in. we'll be better off with the war not picking up in 10 turns (although we'll be in much better shape if it does).
so. we have 10 turns to prepare for war. rather, 10 turns to put ourselves in a position that azza would be foolish to go to war. mostly we need lots and lots of spears. iron working comes in 2 turns, we needed it worked asap. I think at least the 2 workers west of the odyssey should head over now, as well as the one N, NE of the odyssey on the forest. (or maybe, alternatively, the worker chopping the forest not in any cities BFC, that will go to Gilgamesh - I am not in such a hurry to complete the settler in Gilgamesh as that city will be the silver city, which requires sailing and a galley to be built before it can be any use). in that case, the N, NE worker is set to chop into the iliad but can be switched to the seettler in the odyssey.
anyway all 3 can reach gilgamesh in 2 turns. Iron working is done in 2 turns so they can start working the iron immediately.
Beowulf is completing a warrior which will turn into a spear. the odyssey has a warrior in que that will turn into a speear, the over flow from the settler (its 10 turns away, but has chops coming in still) will help complete it.
here is a good picture to help us examine the effects of the war:
first, casualties. we lost 6 chariots and a warrior. azza lost a warrior, 2 cities, 2 workers, and 4 chariots.
theodyssey and the iliad are whipped pretty badly. theodyssey has 41 turns of whip unhappy remaining and the Iliad has 27. that sucks but was necessary. however, despite this, we have maintained the #1 GNP spot throughout the entire war, our capital is still #3, and we have reclaimed the #1 spot in score. Azza, on the other hand, is LAST in score now and has absolutely tanked his economy:
our #1 gnp is 59. the rival worst is 23, does that graph look like it could be azza?
we gained 2 workers from the war, but more importantly we gained the Iron spot. This is absolutely CRITICAL. not only does it give us copper units we couldnt have otherwise, but it takes away the possibility of Praets from Azza.
So, all in all, this small war was an overwhelming success for us.
the whip unhappy is keeping currently keeping us from our full potential, BUT - it will wear off. And we will have gold connected in 10-12 turns, and silver connected not long after that. plus we have judaism in 2 cities. in my SP game with thesee same settings I got free religion spreads like crazy, so I expect that to happen here as well. we should revolt to judaism after the settler in theodyssey is built and we have a few spears in place - the revolt to OR can probably wait until we have another civic to go with it (probably HR). the granary in Beowulf and the new cities is probably the only building we need atm anyway, and those cities won't have religion for awhile. or we can revolt after we get writing, we'll see.
demos:
here is the MFG graph, which helps explain why azza was finally willing to accept peace. looks like the whips really hurt him too:
Please don't go. The drones need you. They look up to you.
