[SPOILERS] Lewger goes for the Bigwyn

(January 8th, 2013, 08:08)Lewwyn Wrote: Just FYI, I figured out back before we got IW that Azza and Serdoa both had sailing. When I switched around it was clear that we were getting known tech bonuses on Sailing fro two people, a known tech bonus on IW from one person and no known tech bonus from Archery.

I hopefully will get at the turn tonight in a couple hours after wife finishes work.

i was going to go do GNP analysis, but i didnt want to log in smile

Let me sleep on it.

ok. my opinion, its worth it.

serdoa has already scouted 80% of our lands. including the second iron. if he wanted to give azza the map of our lands he could do it.

also, I don't see how azza can steal that iron from even with that info. the city spot is 4 tiles from our capital, the iron 5. the city spot is 10 tiles by land from azza's capital, the iron 11. and vast wasteland in between, so if he settled in that direction we would see it coming. since he doesnt have metal, we could raze/capture any attempts to settle in that direction quite easily. I don't even think azza would try.

as for the eastern peninsula, same thing. we can settle the blocker city whenever we want, and if azza tries to settle it we can do the same.

but the important thing is even if you are worried about it, Serdoa has all the relevant map information already from his scout frown. so we might as well trade and get more info about azza (and serdoa as well).

anyway no rush, we can do it next turn. hopefully before we settle the Aenid smile.

i'd do the map trade. maybe 7-style diplo

can you offer your map for his map and war with azza? that might make it clear that the map isnt to go to azza as part of the trade <shrug>

"declare war on player x" isn't a diplo option in MP. I wish it were added for the rbmod. But I remember reading a post by Krill somewhere that this isn't possible, I think. (if it is possible I can't imagine why it wasn't added, as much as we do no diplo games here). If it were possible we would have proposed he declare war on azza in the early stages of the war.

and Besides all that, we are at peace with azza. and besides that - I'm worried that Serdoa will juse refuse outright a map for map trade (as it should be obvious to him that the map trade will benefit us more than him), I'm quite certain he would refuse a map trade that required him declaring war on Azza, lol.

its pre-currency, and we don't have a trade connection yet, so the only diplo options are map trade (with serdoa) and city trades (with azza and serdoa).

heh just learned that from pb9 thread. thanks.

yes - he would refuse that map trade (if it were even possible) then you'd submit it again without the declare war on azza part.

Turn 76:

so we're baiting the barb onto flatland. Diomedes, with 4/5 experience in the odyssey will then kill it for the combat II promotion. I think the only reason the barb moved to that tile, rather than the forest south of it, was due to me accidently moving Hector out of the city. if he was on the southern tile I think we'd have to kill it at lower odds. so my mistake was beneficial, most likely lol

Settler completes at EOT and the Aenid will be founded in 2 turns.
Chariot on the gold tile is off to explore south of Azza. Lewwyn was annoying and sent Achilleus III rather than Odysseus II to scout. This will not do, Achilleus is the fighter, Odysseus the wanderer. So, I switched out their names - problem solved.
In 3 turns he will be at the southernmost tile we currently have defogged. peace last another 7 turns, so hopefully he can break away form azza by then and not tempt azza with an opportunistic strike. I'm also concerned that he might not have a passageway to get past azza and serdoa to the southern civs - open borders doesnt come until Alphabet here frown.
We'll cross that bridge when we come to it, I guess.

Iron is connected. Briseis is roading towards the rice. Ishtar can start roading towards the gold mine next turn. Borders expand same turn that peace expires - 7 turns from now. we'll need a spear permanently parked on the Iron, and probably one permanently parked on the rice too (or at least while the worker completes her job). we'll have plenty of time for that, though. This city will be quite nice once borders expand.
I'm hoping we will push azza's culture and take that desert hill he has his warrior parked on (so we get vision on his land and not vice-versa) since it is his third ring and our second ring - not really sure if that will happen or not. eventually we'll need a library here for the gold mine. maybe a barracks too(barracks is +1 culture)? and religion will spread, so we will get control of our BFC eventually.

some slight movement in demos:

I'll try to spoiler tag the demos for browsers, I imagine it could get quite dull with no radical changes. But I've got it up there for Harry, Waterbat, or anyone else paying careful attention.

A view inside our capital, which I haven't shown for quite awhile:

I just added the cue. As you can see there is a lot of potential for improvement once we pick up the additional happy. This turn it is the #3 city in the world (changes just about every turn) but with a 9 happy cap in 8-9 turns we should be able to claim the #1 spot wink.

Whelp, Azza is teching HBR. The good news is we'll have spears anyway. Also HAs cost 50H to build.

I sent 2 chariots out exploring. Odysseus will go towards the barbs. Achilleus is heading down the right side of Azza's empire.

We should have 3 spears built in 4 turns.

Considering mining the hill next to beowulf to give the city 8hpt but first need to need to chop the forest NE of it into a granary or a spear. We will likely need to whip a spear in the future. Also need to consider city walls there. We have about 6 turns of enforced peace left.

Just a thought about the religion conversion, we're likely going to want to wait until after the galley has been built and we have enough spears that we feel comfortable. Can't afford that turn of anarchy if we're looking at an impending attack by Azza.
