I think its actually best to start off lurking a bit - either in-game or out.
This will of course, ne jumped on all the harder.

Some stupid thoughts late at night.
Would be fun if there was some tool - program - browser window or something - with current lynch tallies. Players place votes, instant update, even a countdown clock to lynchtime. Voting record saved for each day in a separate downloadable file (23:12 - Molach votes for Waterbat). Would actually save some time for everyone, to know the score at all times. Game thread as usual except votes there would merely be to signal why you voted for this tool
I'm kind of intrigued about angels and demons - mabye the angel/demon (leader of the 'informed' minority) could decide not to tell all his underlings who their packmates were...say, if I should happen to draw scum again, I'd actually prefer to not know who my mates were for the first several days. Lets not delve into why. Demon would know and could steer/nudge voting to our advantage. Lot of work, so need volunteers with time & will to do it - so works perfect that separate from the game. Could even be public election & knowledge who the demon is - not like he can be lynched anyway.
Seems I need sleep.

I've actually been planning to create a tool to do this for the last month or so. I haven't done any development yet, but I've been wanting to do pretty much all of what you said there. Except, it would parse ingame posts for specific syntax to read votes instead of requiring votes to be made using this tool, to make it a resource instead of a requirement for players.

Yeah I would also suggest parsing the thread, the game thread has to be the master. Maybe waterbat could help with implementation, his scraper does a lot of the necessary plumbing already, I would imagine.
I have to run.

My thoughts were leaning towards having an automated account that would use a parser to record votes in thread (yeah maybe work it in with Waterbat's parser), and do other things like post the current votecount in thread at specified times throughout the day or at a player's request.

Most likely, it'll be the crossover game, since Brick's game is currently experimenting with power-redistribution-via-items and I haven't been able to solve all the problems with Angel-Demon.

Sorry for hijacking your thread again btw.
Which of the options in the OP was that?

Pick Your Character 2. I might pick a theme but there won't be animals allowed this time.

re: vote tally. I can work on that. its much easier without an account, but WITH an account, it could post the tallies periodically.
Or if someone wrote tally in the thread, that could trigger one.
what it would require from the players:
very strict voting - names must be spelled correctly and in the same red #FF0000
we could require players to do VOTElayer or UNVOTE

heh i tried to make "tally" gray in the thread above #888888, but apparently that is the same color as the theme.
tally could be in cyan or something.
mayor votes would need to be supported as well.
