Look guys, this is getting a bit ridiculous now. Thus I'm going to set out some options and ask for votes. You can pick a first preference and a second preference.
1) Full, unrestricted diplomacy
2) AI Diplomacy with added - stop trading with & declare war on text options
3) Scout/Explorer/Workboat 'ambassador diplomacy' - no gifting but can only have one message per turn
4) Option 3 but add spies and make all ambassador units have to be gifted after message passed
I vote 1 as first preference and 3 as second preference
Tally
1) TT(1), Jowy (2), AT (2), Azza (2)
2) Cornflakes (2), Jowy (1), AT (1), Azza (1)
3) TT (2), Cornflakes (1), 2metra (2), Commodore (1)
4) 2metra (1)
Result
1) 2.5 votes (1 1s)
2) 3.5 votes (3 1s)
3) 3 votes (2 1s)
4) 1 vote (1 1s)
"You want to take my city of Troll%ng? Go ahead and try."

We've had plenty of discussion, and I agree that it's time to pick an option and stick with it (and I think you've got them covered). I would rather not play full-diplo, so I therefore vote option #3 as first preference, and option #2 as second preference.

I'd go 2) then 1).
I think the unit diplo is interesting, but unwieldy.

Right well with that we have a winner.
Option 2 - AI Diplo with added text options of 'stop trading with' and 'declare war on'

Did you weight the votes 1st - 1 point, 2nd - 0.5 points?
I thought you'd be eliminating the unpopular choices on the first preference (1 & 4) and re-distributing the 2nd preferences of TT and 2Metra (both onto option 3) giving option 3 a 4-3 win?
Of course I'm only weighing in because I want to see the scout thing so feel free to ignore me.
I love complicated voting systems.

Tenda (or something like this) voting system counts - first choice 1 point, second choice - 0.5 points, third choice - 0.25, fourth choice - 0.125 and so on. So just summing those can give you a winner.
