What's the general opinion on the fog-related comments in the first paragraph? Do you guys want that axed completely?

They do not know of Brick by Brick at this moment. Important to note:

When the new city in the south pops second ring borders, they will have visibility on our peak tile within our culture. Probably by then our borders have expanded as well.

Well, also they'll see all the rest of our borders then through culture bleed.

Draft 1 to CivPlayers Wrote:CivPlayers,

Greetings from Realms Beyond! Our axe was exploring west of our new city last turn, and a sharp-eyed teammate spied green borders poking through the fog. I think the rule is you can't make contact until you have official contact in-game though, so to play it safe, I waited to send this until today when we now have contact in-game. It's nice to finally meet your team! We haven't met a new team for awhile now, so it's nice to resume filling out our contacts.

Have you guys met many other teams? We've met the German team, WePlayCiv, and CFC. We've had no real issues with any of them, although the German team and WePlayCiv have been knocking each other around for awhile now. The German team is the closest to you out of all of them, the rest are not all that close.

I'd love to open up a NAP discussion with your team. Perhaps we can share intel about the map that we've both gathered so far too, that way we can both get an edge on the rest of the teams. Any thoughts on these ideas?

FYI - I'm scooter, and I'm sort of the primary contact for RB. Any of your team leaders can feel absolutely free to add me on google chat - realmsbeyondscooter@gmail.com. I'd be happy to catch up on the game by chat if you'd like - sometimes it works better than email.

Thanks!

(I realize somebody just floated the idea of attacking them. I don't think that option needs to be 100% dismissed, but in the meantime, we still need to consider what we'll say if we attempt to move forward peacefully)

I'd prefer to leave it out.

I'm somewhat inclined to let them take the first shot at diplomacy, given we have the axe next to their city. This is the only advantage we have in the area. They have two cities to our one, and our one could be isolated relatively easily if this gets nasty. I think this initial axe vs. warrior situation is the best advantage we will achieve for a little while. I'd like to keep the peace and get a NAP, but since they are at a temporary disadvantage, they may offer better terms than we are willing to request, given we know how precarious BbB is, dangling at the end of a defensive line, while they do not.

We have a larger military than these guys. Since they may not know that yet, all they have to go on is score until they get graphs, we can't push too hard. But, we don't need to panic. Our handful of axes is surely more than they have at this point. If they're rationally playing this game, they'll see the virtue in a good agreement, and so may be willing to make a concession. Look at how we've managed the discussion so far, we're very deferential to their team. We're stronger (score indicator from their point of view, but we KNOW we are), and have a temporary tactical advantage. I think they'll offer more than we would request.

I should point out that so far no one from CivPlayers has even logged into the game yet this turn. They don't know we have contact right now. Not sure if that affects our discussion at all.

When do they typically log on to play? If it is usually pretty early on the clock, I think it doesn't make a difference. If they don't log in until a day or so has passed, then I think we should have a message waiting for them so it doesn't look like we're intentionally dragging our feet, because then it could look like we have something to hide.

Us not replying may suggest "a heated debate on whether to attack their city or not" smile Finally cooler heads would have prevailed and we chose peace!

I reread the initial message and I like novice's suggestion, which is along the lines of what I was going to suggest myself.

I think I favor novice's suggestion after thinking on it. Those were the sentences I was considering removing.

Novice version looks good.
