Well, maybe Maniac does have a little bit of self-bias. The Trench thing, and the Interceptor collateral, and such I could accept as the way the game was intended to work. 'Prevent Fungal Blooms' not actually, y'know, preventing fungal blooms, though...when it happens to affect the opponent you're in a hot war with at the time...that's a bit rich.
Edit: Although, I have to point out, it was the discovery that Nanotubes was in no way worth the single minded focus I spent that did the most to break my interest. I'd have done so much better if I'd been building Drop Troopers and Subs instead of Stockpile Energy
