Wow, you people never give up

Playing Diablo that is.

I've had an extended AFK. I haven't been well. I've been recovering a bit though and trying to play a few computer games to help me restore some of my coordination.

I don't know if I should try to play online, but you might see me there.

Hi Doc! Glad to know you are still with us.

And if you are feeling slow on the keyboard, now really is the time to install either Ventrilo or TeamSpeak or both. I am pretty sure you can use them with a Mac now. And we can hear your patented gravel and glass crunching Southern drawl. yikes

I don't think that would work out to well. Trying to talk that is.

I had a stroke. I'm garbled. In fact, I sound down right retarded.

I can kinda sorta drive a toon, but I can't do it right. I have a hydra orb sorcie in single player, and I keep doing frustrating things like firing orbs off in the wrong direction. And I can't seem to teleport to the spot I want to teleport. You wouldn't think these sorts of things would be so difficult.

Still lots of critters, but I don't take care of them any more. Others do.

Which realm is everybody playing? USWest still?

Hey Doc. Sorry to hear that, you seems to be in good spirit, at least.

We are still on USWest. I think I saw you logon last night. Dugdug, isn't it? But I am mostly afk, too lazy to close the app.

Yeah, that was me.

I have a softcore necro named Pelvis Presley I'm thinking about playing, but only if there are others around. I only made a hardcore toon to see who was in a hardcore game.

I don't know if I should be trusted in a HC game to be honest, I'll probably fail miserably at something and get somebody killed.

My brain for the most part works the same as it always has. Slightly addled and absent minded, but sharp as a tack when needed. Getting the brain and the body to communicate is the difficulty. Talking, coordination, little things people take for granted like getting a spoon into your mouth.

What is the most infuriating thing is that people seem to think my mind is gone just because I'm garbled and clumsy. Or that somehow, I've gone deaf. That speaking very, very loudly and slowly is somehow the answer, and that I am feeble minded. I feel trapped. I can't have a decent conversation with anybody. I finally got my hands to the point where I can use a computer again, which was a relief. I can communicate now at least. I could communicate before too... Just not as well. It took considerable effort to learn to extend my middle finger again to let people know of what I thought of this intolerable treatment.

I really am surprised to see people playing D2 after all these years, all this time. Hell, I am surprised to find my self playing it still on occasion.

Well it was a solid game. I suppose I should say it still is, but to some of us it has become a warmly remembered "was". Now with Diablo III far enough along in development that people can do more than merely speculate I suppose the renewed interest might get D2 sparking a bit more as well.

RB historical recap...

Some of us who were playing Diablo II, back when you were frequently on these forums, jumped ship to Guild Wars. Guild Wars was headed up by some top ex-Blizzard people from D2 and StarCraft, so we slid fairly comfortably into a game that felt a lot like the Diablo III-that-never-happened (hur hur, little did we know...). Another RB contingent followed other ex-Blizzard developers to the other spiritual successor of Diablo 2, "Hellgate: London."

Realms Beyond in Guild Wars is still active to some degree, although quietening down somewhat in a product towards the end of its lifespan. Realms Beyond in Hellgate recently became Realms Beyond rembering Hellgate after those servers closed - Cue a small migration back to D2.

These days we've become a more partitioned community with several thriving sub-communities including a number of people hoping to see Realms Beyond reunite under one game. We''ll see what comes, but for the moment RB is still around and still gaming. [Image: jive.gif]

I've played D2 a few times in recent history. Lots of games with Shishak not all that long ago... Or is it? 2006 maybe? 07? I can't remember, and currently, I can not be trusted with numbers or good memory. Lots of hardcore games. A bit of play with the Basin too. But most of the RBD crew was gone during that time, off to games with greener pastures.

I might try to loggon tonight to see if anybody is around... Anybody planning to be there?

Welcome back Doc :wink2:

Our Low Rent Legion hardcore team keeps us busy lately and the (sad) passing away of the HG:L servers returned a few regulars to D2/LoD so you should have no problem finding some old D2 die hards online. Actually there are no limits to specific days with friday evening, whole weekend and monday night being best bets.

Commonly agreed play mode is hardcore ladder as it was when you went MIA. Good thing is i also have some softcore public play experimental builds so i can provide some company there too.

Don't be afraid to sound retarded, we all do now and then. Communication-wise it's actually best to have Ventrilo (works on Macintosh OS X 10.4 + thumbsup ) or Teamspeak at hand. In games with 3+ people voice almost completly replaced keyboard usage. It greatly decreased the number of typing deaths but can also be a distraction wink
