Well, I could be incorrect, but as of v9 I was pretty sure I saw 'Illians only' getting the Ice river commerce. Granted though, it was enemy lands, so I could have just not seen the lumbermill or something. (I say this because there was also +1 commerce on riverside forest ice ... which, I dunno, seems off, I'll have to test before 'confirming or denying' this for v9)

snow river commerce doesn't seem to be in eitbv9, but it's in for MNAI so it will be in eitbv10 ( unless Sareln doesn't merge that of course )
another topic, what was the reason for disabling lightbringers from upgrading to potent mages via spiritual? that was a big Malakim lure with no good reason to get nerfed imo: if the reason was spiritual being better than arcane, I think adding mobility to arcane solves that nicely already. You have the reason but I disagree with your evaluation. Arcane should give you the best mages. Spiritual should give you the best priests. Spiritual lightbringers (Potent, Mob1) which upgrade to mages and keep those upgrades will have mages just as good as an Arcane leader and better priests. Therefore, we close the loop to preserve the first two sentences and the trait specialization.
Malakim don't have much going for them though and it also removes most of the lightbringer's utility..
similarly, what was the reasoning for enabling alchemy labs for elves?
their late game was very good already, and in Eitb they get +1 hammer on top of every tile in their empire. alchemy labs are a lot better as well. not to mention that hidden paths, which was a powerhouse tech already, now also sports satyrs and kithra! Feral Bond wasn't a particularly great tech before either, so I'm not sure why you decided to move two goodies to the already great Hidden Paths. re: Arcane being worse than Spiritual, have you thought about giving it cheaper alchemy labs? the cheaper mage guild is a step in the right direction, this would fit and bring it up to the same level as Spiritual imo.
If your curious you can always search the EitB forum for answers why things were done. All the discussion is presumably still in threads for previous wishlists, and would save having to ask.
(I'd answer myself, but tbh I'm not sure).
It allows the building of Mary morbius in eitb, which was seen as an too much of a nerf to elves to prevent them from building. her.
How was hidden paths any good before receiving satyrs/kithra? I remember never researching it until I needed GoN, but I may have missed something.
Erebus in the Balance - a FFH Modmod based around balancing and polishing FFH for streamlined competitive play.
GoN alone made the tech very attractive imo.
it seems like RBers rank elves a lot lower than CFCers due to the fact that mp games are usually decided earlygame, essentially making the whole elven lategame OPness null and only leaving the slow workrate penalty significant. there is no other reason why a balance mod would have buffed the already toptier elves so much otherwise... lategame elves were already a powerhouse, now they get alchemy labs+earlier satyrs/kithra+ republic buff. if an halfway decent player can get to priesthood+hidden paths uncrippled ( easier with Ljos thanx to the worldspell and plentiful archers ) it's essentially gameover a la old Flauros imo. maybe elven race should just lose all/some of the workrate penalty so their lategame potential can be brought back in line a bit. in my view the only area in which elves ( FoL followers actually ) needed a buff is how ancient forests are tactically useful for invaders, but fawns/satyrs buff should have taken care of that already. I agree that elves have been boosted quite a bit, however I believe most of their boost were indirectly and just benefited from them anyway (this is the problem with balancing, its quite easy to boost something indirectly and sway balance again). I think your overrating some of these boosts though. Alchemy Labs and Republic both appear almost too late to matter, while Satyr's level 4 requirement makes them limited in number and Kithra is only 1 unit with no remarkable abilities (similar to Valin/Rosier but appears at almost the same time). Can you give an example of this (a MP game where this exact scenario happens)? If there isn't one yet perhaps you could be the one to do it. |
