Humans only get an extra feat on first level ... if they got every level all other would be weak fluff races

Does archery count as a skill, or is the only way to make archery better by taking weapon focus: bows.

As Sian said, humans get one bonus feat, not one/level

Weapon focus, higher dexterity, bow related feats, all can boost archery.

Skills tend to be things you do outside of combat, and you can find a list here:

Fighters are probably the best archers, but rangers are a close second. Or, depending on the situation, rogues can be good archers too.

Yes...although I'd think twice before spending all your points on just one 18.

I'm personally looking at 18/14/14/7/7/7

but I'll check a look at the skills before making my decij concrete.

Level 4, actually. So you don't have it yet.

So far character ideas:

Ichabod: fighter
Lewwyn: caster, or maybe rouge
Pling: fighter?

My current favoritest idea for a character & backstory is a Paladin, but I'm more than willing to change that if we need another of the more complicated roles. I think I could have fun with Cleric/Scorcer/Bard if needed.

1. If I understand that Ability Score Cost table correctly, if I want to make my strenght attribute 14, I need to spend 5 of the 15 points Mardoc gave us. Is that right?

2. Holy! There's a billion feats. The D&D book I've red had nowhere near that. Someone will have to help me. I think I'll post my backstory and someone can help me pick things that fit with it.

Ichabod, I can help you with character creation if you need a hand

Yes, I'd appreciate the help. I think the thing I understand the most about D&D is character creation, actually, because that's the further I went in all the times I tried to play it. I'm familiar with a lot of the concepts, but some help to go through useful feats and skills + checking if I'm not doing anything wrong will be very welcome.

I'll work on a character backstory and try to do the basic initial choices. Then I show it to you so you can give advice + check for errors. I prefer making choices that fit the backstory rather than choosing the most powerful stuff, by the way.

I think I'm heading towards Ranger - I'll write something up in a bit (when I'm not supposed to be washing the dinner dishes lol ) about the sort of person she'd be, and post that so people can see if it fits the group requirements (and I'll change her if not). I'm thinking the best way for me to do the character creation is to make a personality then get someone (or the whole thread) to help me make the mechanics of the character work smile
...wounding her only makes her more dangerous! nono -- haphazard1
It's More Fun to be Jack of All Trades than Master of One.

Pling ... if you catch me on Gchat i'm sure we can figure out the mechanics ... if you have the idea i believe i can get something that at least look like it from the mechanical PoV
