Oh, actually, one thing that crossed my mind. I like the backstories posted so far, I really do...but I'm not sure I understand why these loners have decided to work together. And especially not why they're working together in something as risky and dependent on trust as adventuring. Could you elaborate on that a bit? Even if it's just 'Brick's character and mine have been drinking in the local pub for the last 3 months and have become good friends'. I think you guys need ties to each other.

I wouldn't actually want one jsyk.
The current part of my backstory is that I come from a bloody past, and have found a deity and am striving to redeem myself in the eyes of him and of the land. I think that the best way to do this is to join with a group of adventurers and do good deeds throughout the land, etc, etc. I can work on it more but that's a basic version.

Guess I'll be lugging a fair amount of cash around, then - can't see spending more than ~800 to get fully equipped sans +1 magical armour / cloak for 1000 each. I suppose I could go crazy on extreme niche use magic oddities...
Quote:As for starting location - I'm going to go with Damara, in the Forgotten Realms. Description incoming, hopefully later today.
Sounds good. Now to work out where that is, and where I might have gotten there from...

Cool, that's about what I was expecting. I'll stick to basic elf, then.

Not really missed, so much as not asked yet, but:
Does level-up health have to be random? I'd much rather it average (say, treat d8 as alternating rolls or 4 and 5) if possible. Randomness is fun when it's adding tension to gameplay, but when you can't be sure your character isn't going to end up blowing over in a brisk wind even when you're trying to mitigate that, it's significantly less enjoyable.
No objections to others preferring randomness on this, I'd just like some consistency for myself.

Ok, you may also have one item that can break the 750gp limit, if you're willing to come up with a story for how you got it. Can be just a couple lines, but this is the most important thing you have, there's got to be a reason you have it.
Still total spending limit of 3000.

I'm fine with that. And actually, on top, I'm going to say at 1st level you get maximum on your hit dice, regardless of whether you're going average or rolling.

re coordinating backstories - don't have much more than the bare bones of mine down yet, so I'm open to possible interaction. Would anyone have had need of the sword arm or infiltration skills of a rather mercenary elven stabbity girl in recent years? Or possibly longer than that if your life-span is of a tolerable length to allow such...

That would be lovely. Then I can spend my time thinking about quest options.

Still total spending limit of 3000. That seems reasonable enough. I'll see what I can do to come up with something

Awesome. I think the character creation page specifies you get a max roll for the first level anyway.
