Marcus speaks up: "If you've decided, then feel free to finish the food, and you're welcome to go out into the town for some last minute shopping. Meet back here at suppertime, and I'll have the Scout for the North Damara route, Kilthan, join you then."
Also, let me be the first to offer you a souvenir!"
*He hands each of you a small Bloodstone, and leaves the room, humming.*
You have the afternoon free.

Well since we have the time let's explore a bit. Quickly though, we wouldn't want to miss meeting the scout. Mariel, anyone else would you like to explore the town and see what there is to offer?
Thoven heads outside and begins to look up and down the street.

Thoven sees a road with a lot of shops, several food carts, and lots of dangerous looking people none of them crowding anyone else. Thoven gets the feeling this would be a bad place to be a pickpocket.

Hm. If we're to be exploring the wilderness for two weeks, perhaps I should stock up on rations to last that length of time.
Gunther, would it be acceptable to store the food that won't fit in my pack in your wagon? Though I suppose it might be easier if you allowed me to store my whole pack in there while it's feasible for the wagon to accompany us. It'd leave me unburdened enough to be capable of scouting reliably, too.

I would have no quarrel with that , Madam Mariel. You may leave whatever you wish in my wagon.

I will try to find us food on the trail to save on rations ... but yes, it would be a good idea to stock up. I'm bringing exactly 14 days worth. Only 2 of which are in my personal backpack though.

My thanks, Gunther.

Ah, shopkeeper! I wish to purchase a week's worth of trail rations. What price would I be looking at?
<Mardoc: are we going to need to engage in bartering, or just assume stock prices are the only option?>

"Ma'am, a week's worth of standard trail rations would run you four gold pieces. It's just jerky and trail bread, though. You look like a discerning type and I'm sure you'd rather something a bit more toothsome. As it happens, I have a contract with an elven baker in the area, and she provides me with food that is more to the taste of elves: soft trail bread made of oats mixed with other grains, berries, and nuts and sweetened with honey. Along with some dried fruits and nuts, it's a lot more palatable.
I do have to admit my costs for elven rations are a bit higher, though, so I'd have to charge you fifteen gold pieces for a week's supply. What do you say?"
While you're thinking it over, you notice a stack of fliers on his counter, with a 'Free' sign next to them. You pick one up, and it reads:
Quote:Have you earned an annuity, but have expenses to pay now? Get the money you want on YOUR schedule. Come visit Mr. Vaaren at the Golden Spoon, and get the cash you need TODAY!
A fee may apply. Customer agrees to Vaaren's valuation of vague valuables such as income shares

"I'm good with just the standard rations, thanks. The more palatable stuff might be stretching my budget slightly.
I'll take a week's worth, then."
* pays, takes goods
Later, showing Mara and Bradwyn the flier:
"See the mention of 'vague valuables'? Clearly referring to items, possibly magic ones. This guy probably has a fair few he's gouged out of adventurers who were forced into dealing with him one way or another. Once we're more familiar with each others modes of operation, we should make an attempt to re-appropriate such items that he's effectively stolen from other adventurers.
Of course, another option is to take out a sizable loan (or several, if we can keep him from realising we're connected), and deal with whatever he sends after us when he realises we've no intention of repaying him. We might want to discuss that approach with the others, though..."
