So, how did the PitBoss work out?

In theoretical pitboss2, features I'd like to see:

-enable observers (like Starcraft)
-some limited undo functionality
-diplo deferral to look at game state ("let me take a look first")

It's annoying, but you can get around an open trade window at log in to take a look at a lot of the game state to get the info you need before making a decision about whatever is in the trade window. The way I've found to do that is to click on your tech bar at the top of the screen, which will deselect the current tech. Then right-click on an available tech to bring up the civilopedia. While that is up you can press F1 to bring up a list of your cities, then you can click into your cities to look around if needed. Or use some of the other F-keys to look at whatever you need (F4 for diplomacy and trades comes to mind). Also, you can click on the mini-map while the trade window is open and drag around down there to move the main display behind the trade window. As long as you don't hit escape you can still take action on the active trade offer. It definitely isn't ideal but it's the only workaround I know of for now....until version 2.0!

Soren, +1 to the other players who said this, buying Civ 4 was the best money I ever spent on a video game (and I've bought it a few times over the years). Thanks for making a great game. Good luck in whatever your next venture is. bow

In fact, in general, I'd like the game not suddenly and grabbing window focus until you've made a snap decision. What to build at beginning of turn? I dunno, I'll just click something random and hope I don't accidentally click End Turn. What's that, the game wants me to gift an awesome corn/gems city to my rival? Better hope I hadn't been spamming Enter to cycle through units!

Despite all complaints about Civ5, at least that game doesn't like to steal focus and lets you temporarily minimise decisions to be put off later on that turn.

Just enable the minimize popups option.
I have to run.

I do that, but it still steals focus at the end of turn.

Minimize pop ups can also help cause a bug in pbems.

Oh yeah, when the players before you save turn in the middle of the turn? It's never fun clicking through 30 pop-ups, and seeing all the cannons your opponent is about to smash you with

I think the game should NAG you at the end of the turn instead of the beginning. It is more conducive to mental flow and used by lots of other games (usually with research and build queue).
