RB PBEM #1 - Mehmed (SPOILERS!)

Swiss Pauli Wrote:Any chance of a screenshot in the near future, textmeister Dreylin?
Certainly, and probably more than one! Nothing much of great excitement has been happening in the last couple of turns (we've all seen enough tech splash screens & XXgold from huts), and I've been putting off actually generating my dotmap since each turn has been clearing a bit more fog from my core area.

Hopefully the turn will come around again today, since I'm one move away from fully de-fogging the strip of land from me to the Sea and I would like to dotmap based on maximum info.

t24 - As requested by Swiss, here's a screenie from this turn with some important facts:

1) I have discovered the Northern edge of the map
2) The central sea extends to the Northern edge, therefore m_h & Sooooo(?) have only one border to defend.
3) Bear Slayer will pop Hut number 10 next turn
4) Polytheism will found Hinduism in Istanbul next turn

Yep, here you go:

Thoughts:

Food resources are fairly scarce, hills however are not. City1 secures the Gems, 3FP and blocks one route into the immediate area. City2 picks up both of the central food resources along with a swath of cottageable grasslands and access to the other river. City3 is by far the best coastal spot visible, is highly defensible and will give access to the central island.

The three western cities are tentative placement which gain access to all the resources. There's space for a couple of filler cities in between - probably one to share the Cows and one to share the Wheat.

The Northeastern city is kind-of tentative as I haven't really worked out what to do with the East. The other idea I'd had looked like this:

but in this config the Gems city is an underwhelming production city, the Sugar city is also production-rich and can't be settled until Iron Working (& lots of Workers), and the Easternmost location hasn't been fully explored and may be a step too far at this point. I think I'm happier securing one strong city and a couple of weak ones in the area rather than going for a set of mediocre ones & a risky one.

Oh, and the complete (annotated) map is attached - it's pretty big.

Hinduism is founded in Istanbul. You can also see that the borders have popped and that Tim is positioned to connect up the Horses. You can also see the Settler who will be heading along the road being prepared by Daisy towards the Gems city - to be founded on t27.

Mining (then BW) will be our immediate tech path, and Istanbul starts on a 3t Warrior before a second Settler.

The Northern Scout pops the hut for experience, then moves to a forested hill to await the attack of a Bear. The Eastern Scout spots a 0.2/2 health Lion on the other side of a lake ... either Sooooo or Ruff have had a nasty accident over there.

Edit: ah, and Ruff has built Stonehenge ... but you already knew that.

Congrats on landing Hinduism so late in the game! Freebie religions are always nice to get.

The dotmaps (and especially the huge annotated map) are great to see. Thanks! smile

I have two questions for my readers:

1) Are the screenshots coming out OK / readable for everyone?

2) Is the comparative lack of audience participation in my thread because:
  • (A) I'm exceedingly thorough in my reporting and you have no questions lol
  • (B) I'm exceedingly boring in my reporting and you're all asleep
  • © I'm exceedingly bad in my play and you're all in the "no players" thread laughing at me smoke

I have two answers for you

I've been secretly hoping that someone starts an RB PBEM #2 soon, so that I get to read all the reports. smile

I think there was some interest, but it went into a game on civfanatics.

Awesome dotmaps. I am curious to see if you go with a small 5 city empire or try for a big push. You are definetly in an interesting position

Speaking for myself, there just isn't too much to talk about yet that isn't spoilerish. I expect that will change later in the game.
