Why can't we win the culture battle? It's not like CP are cultural...
I like the idea of SoZ. I'd like it in ED but FP is good too.
Game host Caledorn seems to be having some major issues right now. And this is not the first time he's run into problems with the Pitboss client. Is there any chance one of our team members could offer to take over hosting the game? Caledorn is apparently going to take the game down for a full weekend soon, and I think we'd like to avoid any more delays when the game was finally moving again at a good pace.
Caledorn also paused the game when he restored it last night. Then 12 hours ticked by with no one unpausing the game. Screw that, I've gone ahead and unpaused it. If you want something done in this game, well, don't count on the CFC "admins" to do anything. If someone wants to post that the clock is running again over at CivFanatics, be my guest.
There is 2 hours left and German team still to login. If they miss their turn we end up losing more time with reloads as the rules say game should be paused for 24 hours after each reload.....
They had 36 hours to play before the game went down, then about 16 hours of paused time, then another 14 hours after that. If they couldn't log in, or check CivStats, or get the auto-updates from APT Mod, or post anywhere to ask for extra time... they deserve to miss their turn.
As much as I agree with all of what you've just said.... we will lose more time by not pausing and letting them finish. There is the inevitable request for reload, then interminable discussion, then inactive administration making a ham-handed decision. Maybe let's pause it? I hate to do it, but it may save some time.
Has anything been posted in the relevant CFC thread?
It's not about what should be, it's about preventing the game from having to be reloaded, and then waiting another 24 hours for the game to be unpaused finally.
We are also guaranteed at least a coinflip shot at Great Wall. Details to come tomorrow, hopefully without a reload for asleep at the wheel German team.
0. Player Requests: The player's requests take precedence, even if they contradict the following guidelines.
1. Balance: The map must be balanced, both in regards to land quality and availability and in regards to special civilization features. A map may be wonderfully unique and surprising, but, if it is unbalanced, the game will suffer and the player's enjoyment will not be as high as it could be.
2. Identity and Enjoyment: The map should be interesting to play at all levels, from city placement and management to the border-created interactions between civilizations, and should include varied terrain. Flavor should enhance the inherent pleasure resulting from the underlying tile arrangements. The map should not be exceedingly lush, but it is better to err on the lush side than on the poor side when placing terrain.
3. Feel (Avoiding Gimmicks): The map should not be overwhelmed or dominated by the mapmaker's flavor. Embellishment of the map through the use of special improvements, barbarian units, and abnormal terrain can enhance the identity and enjoyment of the map, but should take a backseat to the more normal aspects of the map. The game should usually not revolve around the flavor, but merely be accented by it.
4. Realism: Where possible, the terrain of the map should be realistic. Jungles on desert tiles, or even next to desert tiles, should therefore have a very specific reason for existing. Rivers should run downhill or across level ground into bodies of water. Irrigated terrain should have a higher grassland to plains ratio than dry terrain. Mountain chains should cast rain shadows. Islands, mountains, and peninsulas should follow logical plate tectonics.
