I wouldn't hold my breath for GW graphics unless we camp the timer.

No love for GLib, guys?

Quote:We did land the Great Wall as planned, only we popped borders at Focal Point on the exact same turn as the Great Wall completed, which teleported a barb axeman two tiles east... and right next to a chopping worker. The barb axe was still able to move and then killed our worker. This is possibly the single dumbest thing that I've ever seen in Civ4, the completion of Great Wall + border pop on the same turn magically teleporting a barb axe directly next to a chopping worker. smoke I had big plans for that worker! I'm actually angrier about losing the worker right now than losing the wonder, since it forces me to redo several of the worker moves in the area. Grrr...

If we wanted Glib we'd have to hurry and we'd have to decide where to place it for max effectiveness and then figureout how to build it without marble. Marble is the big set back I think. Especially since CivFr probably has marble and can easily steal it out from beneath us again.

I'd rather build Paya and delay philosophy in favor of the earlier GA and earlier Burea.

Great Library doesn't synergize particularly well with our strategy in this game. We're playing a very widely spaced out empire on a Huge map, the exact opposite of where Great Library shines best. That said, if it's still sitting there on T120 when we pop out Golden Age and revolt into Bureaucracy, we'll take a shot at landing it. Teams tend to over-value the Great Library due to how Single Player works (lightbulb -> trade techs), which means that we're somewhat less likely to get the wonder. We also don't have marble and there's a very high chance that CivFr does. We shall see.

Here is the final tile micro for the turn:

We should be done for this turn.

GLib is not a good thing to go for without marble or IND.

Great library is awesome but only for our academy bureau capital. Can we get it built there? What is the trade off in that case? Ideally, it would be in our NE city, Eastern Dealers, but we lack production to do that. Also, we're going to have to grow ED large enough to starve out some scientists, so we can't whip it like crazy for wonder overflow. And, we just landed hanging gardens, THE "wide" wonder. GL is a "tall" wonder, and we've very much emphasized a wide approach thus far. On this large map, I see tall as less useful than wide, and thus the GL as more subdued than on a smaller map. On a large map, wonders that benefit the entire empire >>>> than single city benefit wonders. And, we lack marble. I think we'd be better served putting those hammers into expansion and scouting. I still think marble is out there waiting to be found, maybe in the polar south halfway between us and an unmet rival. I would choose WCs over the GL if given the choice.

Edit: cross posted. I'd be fine taking it if the price was right, but I think the ROI is less than it needs to be, given absence of marble.

GLib does not actually synergise with a bureaucademy supercap. Bureaucracy multiplies commerce, not beakers. Without representation, those 2 scientists are a mere 6 beakers, I'd rather have a few more cottages (because the trade-off against GLib is infrastructure and growing more pop).

So only go for GLib if we can be opportunistic, but otherwise, ignore it.
