Bah, Thoven, you coward! If you poke the hornets nest than you take the stings you are due!

Gunther trudges up 40 feet towards the ridge, Battle Axe swaying in his left hand while his right twitches with anticipation.

My main weapon, the double axe, remains strapped on my back.

Yeah that was just story embellishment, not an actual mechanic. Sorry for the confusion.

Ah, forgot you had a level in barbarian.

Mardoc, I'll also make a Knowledge (Nature) check at 13+3=16 to see if I can recall anything pertinent to ogres.
(is Nature pertinent for something like this? and Knowledge checks are a free action, right?)

Thinking out loud a bit, I hope that's permitted? I'm not sure which thread I should put it in tho - I'm partly asking for mechanics confirmations which I suppose should maybe go in the other thread.

So, so far Bradwyn is going 60ft backwards and by my count will be at K21 next to where Mara's starting. And Mariel is at the ridge (H32). Gunther makes it to J28 which is 20ft back from the ridge. Thoven went straight up & is still J33 with half a round of action left?

If Mara moves up so she's next to the ridge can she also draw her crossbow? She's 11 tiles or 55ft in a straight line from the ridge now so I'm guessing not because that would take her the whole round to move. Or does the Rapid Reload feat affect that?

Also, how do diagonals count? Ideally I'd like her to not just go straight forward so that if Thoven drops out of the sky he isn't in the way of a stray crossbow bolt coz I'm nice like that smile Tho I guess she can't see to shoot until she's on the 33 row but standing underneath the levitating wizard also seems not entirely sensible given I don't know when he'll drop out of the sky smile
...wounding her only makes her more dangerous! nono -- haphazard1

No moves left actually since going up required my move action.

3 minutes or 30 rounds or whenever I decide to levitate back down. smile

Oh good, that takes one consideration out of the way - she's not going to end up with a wizard as a hat unless Thoven does it on purpose ... wink

I'd tend to assume that being able to reload rapidly does not facilitate drawing the weapon concerned in less than a move action (especially when there's a feat designed for exactly that).

When measuring distance, the first diagonal counts as 1 square, the second counts as 2 squares, the third counts as 1, the fourth as 2, and so on.

I'll move forward as much as I can in this round.

As it happens: "Drawing a weapon so that you can use it in combat, or putting it away so that you have a free hand, requires a move action. This action also applies to weapon-like objects carried in easy reach, such as wands.
...
If you have a base attack bonus of +1 or higher, you may draw a weapon as a free action combined with a regular move."

So yes, Pling, you could move forward while drawing your crossbow.

Knowledge: Nature doesn't help you with Ogres, but Knowledge: Local might. Already rolled Thoven's check, he did poorly enough that he only managed to recognize them.
