I've got a couple of questions and as one's longwinded & pretty much pure mechanics I'll stick them in this thread (for variety from my last set of mechanics questions lol ).

@Mardoc: Can Mara shoot from her side of the ridge into the big, ugly, arrowed Ogre on the other side of the line or are the slopes up & down enough to prevent that? I haven't quite decided what she's doing yet, but I'd like to know if that's an option.

@Anyone who's kind enough to help: How do I construct my attack rolls? From looking at the pathfinder rules website I think I've worked it out but as it seems complicated I'd like to check if I've got the specifics right smile
  • I roll a d20
  • add the attack bonus for the weapon (her crossbow in this case - which is +5 because it's BAB of +2, Dex bonus of +2, Masterwork as +1).
  • add +1 because I'm within 30ft of whichever Ogre I shoot (Point Blank Shot feat).

I don't know exactly what the Precise Shot feat means (it says "no penalty for attack into melee") but I'm assuming that means that if she can attack the Ogre she's right next to then there are no penalties. Rapid Reload feat isn't relevant here either, I think, it just means next round she can shoot straight away without worrying about reloading.

Critical hit for the weapon is 19-20/x2 - so if the original d20 roll was 19 or 20 I roll again to see if it's a critical hit but use the first roll for the actual calculation.

Then damage:
  • Roll 1d8 because that's what the weapon says to do
  • add 2d6 to this because neither Ogre has seen her (that I know) so she can do a sneak attack

If it was a critical hit I double the first of the above but not the second.

I don't think any of her other feats or abilities look relevant (but if someone can look at the character sheet & let me know if I've missed or misinterpreted something I would appreciate it smile ).

Pling, if I remember right, both you and the Ogre are close to the ridgeline, so yes, you can see and shoot.

Your description of the mechanics is spot-on. Except Precise shot - it's not about whether you're in melee range, it's about whether the target is in melee with a third party. Normally you would take a -4 penalty as you avoid hitting your ally, but the feat negates that penalty.

The effect of you, personally, being in melee is different. If you're in melee range with someone who's aware of you, and you try to cast a spell or use a ranged weapon, they get an attack of opportunity against you. This is basically a free normal attack. This round, you can shoot without worrying about that, because you're unseen, but next round it will likely matter.

Sneak attack doesn't care about every enemy, it only cares about the specific one you are attempting to attack. So even if one had seen you, you would still be able to sneak attack the other.

And, given that you're using a ranged weapon, you need to be within 30ft to get a sneak attack. You are in this case, but it's something to keep in mind (and wasn't mentioned).

Yeah, that was me being unclear - I hadn't made my mind up which Ogre to attack, so I was meaning that I could get a sneak attack on either once I had made my mind up.

Thanks, I hadn't spotted that.

Who're we waiting on? Tas to make a move rather than ask a question that's already been answered, and BRick?

And, um, me to have simultaneously internet and time. My home internet decided to die last night, and they haven't gotten it fixed yet.

Could've sworn we were waiting on more than just me. Will make my rolls soon enough I suppose. Or, mardoc could do my attack and damage roll for me if I don't make
Them in time.

Rolls will require laptop.

Why don't you start by saying what you're doing?
