February GW BWE - delayed until Feb. 18

Hey everyone,

Probably most folks are aware of this already, but just to make sure:

This month's Beta Weekend Event has been pushed back to begin on Friday, February 18th. I guess this means that the Arena.net team has been making lots of changes! (I hope they're all for the good)

Maybe we could also use this thread for any organizing that we want to do - I'll be online all three evenings for certain, and perhaps part of the days (not sure about that). All my characters are low level, and still running around the Ascalon area. Anyone else planning to be online in the evenings, and if so, what levels are your chars? Or maybe we should try out some of the level 20 RP chars... Thoughts?

Cheers,
Hawkmoon

Personally, I would like to introduce you guys to all the new skill trainers I've met so far, so I'm in for level 20 RP characters.

I think now that you're pretty familiar with the game basics, I could introduce you to the more advanced stuff. If you're up for it, that is.

My own characters greatly vary in level... so I can be versatile.

That's actually good news for me, since I will probably be able to attend that weekend, but this weekend was looking pretty full.

I'm in favor of some of the lvl 20s just to find out where stuff is. Some level 10s at the alpine plateau would be ideal starting for me since I haven't gotten much further than that in the last 2 bwe's. I can adjust to the lvl 20 ones tho.

Why, that sounds like a challenge! Of course I'm up for it - I'll plan on deleting a couple of my current crop and replacing them with lvl 20 RPs. Sounds great!

I am up for anything, like to see the new area, Ascalon before the searing, as well as the trainer run. Last beta the clvl 20 chars are just limited to GvG, we can go to normal game area with those pre-made chars?

Anyway, I have no problem deleting characters to make new ones.

See you all soon! thumbsup

Alrighty, I have joined the beta event, here's the initial findings:

- all characters from previous beta are intact, along with their items, level, skills, missions, etc.
- guild RB is still there, guild leader was automatically assigned by GW to Khalina Mournbring, not sure who s/he is, sorry.
- Ferry captain still refuses to transport the pre-made clvl 20 character out of the GvG area.
- Since I have forgotten the "flow" of the previous characters, and that I want to see the new beginning area, I am starting a new character.

See you all soon.

EDIT:
- right, found out that we can indeed create clvl 20 full role playing characters, just have to select the character level from the drop down list (doh!).
- ooh! Ooh! Ooh! Ascalon before Searing is preeeeeeety!
- new clvl 1 character starts with one profession and no skills! nod
- there is a new menu system, and some interface changes.
- select a quest from the quest log and the mini map shows the location/direction to complete the quest, nifty! Direction shown using green arrow at the edge of mini map, location shown using a green star.

I have done the new content of Ascalon before Searing, did a few quests but left many undone. Witnessed the Searing happened and was sent to Ascalon City (the starting city of previous beta).

Minor spoiler below (for new role-playing char starting at clvl 1):

I suggest you get your secondary profession and see a few trainers (for different trees in both main and secondary classes) to get some selection of skills before accepting the Acedemy quest. Also finish whatever quests you want to do because there is no turning back. I had too many and already was clvl 5, so I accepted the Academy quest with many quests undone.

Be ready for PvP action! You will be sent to fight another player, both parties will have three henchmen that suppliment your main class. You have to kill more than the opponent in a set time period, I am not sure what happen if you kill less, since I won my battle (I was ele/mesmer + warrior, ranger and monk henchmen, opponent was monk(?) + 2 warrior and a ranger).

Target calling is important, focus fire to take down the enemy one by one, starting from healing/caster class first usually is better. That's how I took down the opponent anyway, losing none of my own in the first round, lost one in the second round I believe, but both round I killed all of them.
