Now, revisiting that tile east of the peak. In the sandbox, here is how it looks...

With a hill east of the peak:

With flat land east of the peak:

And finally, here is what it looks like in-game:

Verdict: the tile east of the peak is FLAT. Very nice.

A lurker comment, and I missed it! You'll have to ask Dazed, he was the one who declared. tongue

Since he has two equally good tiles to work while building a worker, I can't delay that. But if I park on his grass deer, I could delay his growth after the worker. I think I'd rather chase circumnavigation, though.

Reminds me of Age of Empires III, where the Dutch get that weird scout that can only fight with his fists.

Looks like Agriculture-AH may have been the way to go after all:

Worker will complete next turn.

I haven't settled on a micro plan, still hoping for more Hunting/AH resources to show up, including horses. Tentative plan is to improve both deer and the cow, and settle a city 3E of the capital to share both deer. Mine the two bare hills in the capital and give the deer tiles to the second city. The first settler could be built at size 2 in the capital, but if we find more good tiles for the second city, then growing to size 3 first might be better.

Here's a sim to T32 with the tech path AH -> Wheel -> Agriculture -> Mining -> Pottery.

That's the fourth worker being built, and fifth warrior.

Of course, if we don't get horses that tech path may be a bit too risky, so it will probably have to be redone anyway (to improve the horses, if nothing else). I'm just posting it as a comparison point for future reference.

I decided to go with the most conservative scouting path and simply retrace my steps. Our best shot at circumnavigating is that the eastern path is more rugged, and that we stumbled upon the only fast path north already. In keeping with that assumption, we should retrace our steps. We'll get our immediate surroundings unfogged soon enough anyway, the main reason to divert would be to satisfy our own curiosity.

I really hope circumnavigation *is* possible, or all of this is a big exercise in futility. lol

What we do know is that Boldly is out of the hypothetical circumnavigation race, because we met his scout outside Dazed's capital. So now we're just missing Novice.

Dazed has discovered two techs now. I'm too hung over to figure out what they are right now.

Next turn is a decision point, revealing horses while we have to choose our next tech. If I can't make up my mind I'll just go with the wheel, for maximum flexibility. Ideally I should have had lots of time for simming when playing that turn, but I won't, so I'll probably just have to wing it.
