He doesn't look to be in much of a condition to talk at the moment. Maybe once Grouk has done his thing we might be able to get something out of him.
It looks like those ogres ambushed the wagon on the road and dragged it here. Someone want to check that trail? Seems probable it's how the ogres approached this location initially.
I'm going to check the wagon, see if there's anything salvageable or valuable.
I'll take 10 on the Perception check for searching the wagon, if possible. Not sure if you can take 10 on perception though? Would give 19.

"Sir?! Are you listening to me?" - Menas talks to the tied man, waving his hands in front of him (after sheathing - is this a word? - his blade) - "Calm down. We'll get you loose and see what we can do about these injuries".
Menas tries to untie the man.

Gunther heads down the hill, readying a cure spell. Bradwyn finds two more arrows, and Mariel finds that the Ogres were quite good at their looting - any spot that might have held a secret compartment has been broken, including two actual secret compartments. In addition, the whole cargo except for some barrels, has been taken, and those have had their contents dumped around the wagon and pawed through. You might be able to salvage a bit of the flour and oats, but there's no chance of salvaging the beer or whatever valuables were in the compartments.
Grouk does notice, in passing, that the Ogres he was dissecting each carried a bag. Assuming he takes and opens then, he finds Mostly, the contents are of little value: some dubious meat, some stained cloth, and some random bits of bodies. He does find 13 gp, three rings, and an earring, though.
Nothing major changes downhill, until Gunther is able to get to the human in pain, and casts Cure Light Wounds. (aside: he wasn't tied up, just too damaged to move). You watch as the various signs of torture fade away, and the man stops writhing. And then sits up, looks around, and exclaims:
"Thank Mystra! And thank you, heroes!"
"I was just minding my business. Driving my wagon along what should have been a safe road. All of a sudden there were Ogres everywhere! At least 20 of the brutes; I never had a chance. I think I wounded one, but then everything became a blur of pain. I thought I heard one of them say 'catch up after you're done playing' to the ones who decided to torture me. They didn't even interrogate me, just laughed at my pain "
"I have to thank you for saving my life. But I can't offer you anything, except some firewood that used to be a wagon . Unless..."
He gets up and goes to the wagon, straight to a secret compartment that's been bashed open. He fishes around, and sighs.
"No, it looks like that got that too. Can't understand what brutes like that would want with a spellbook. Well, I'd best go on to Helmsdale. I can impose on friends to help me get started in trade again. My name is Jordan Quicklever. Feel free to impose on me for hospitality any time we cross paths. Uh...is there any chance that you're going to Helmsdale and I could travel with you?"
At this point Kilthan speaks up:
"Yes, but we'd best track down that Ogre tribe first. I'll leave it up to the 'hired muscle' if they think they can kill the ogres or not, but at the least we need to report on their numbers and location."
Jordan says. "Oh . Of course, you do what you must. I just hope you catch them before they catch anyone else!"

Well, no-one even got hit in that fight, if we can separate the mob and take them down piecemeal we should be OK. Definitely need to do some preliminary scouting first.
We probably want to secure our mounts slightly more securely than they currently are, though. At least obscure them from the road so the next person travelling down it doesn't just score themselves some free horses and provisions...
Also, there's a chance anyone nearby might have seen our elfbird and be coming to investigate. So we'll want to be extra cautious when scouting ahead.

"So Klithan, you going to track those ogres, or will we have to muddle our way through?"
Grouk leans over to sniff at the ogre-trail, so casually it is only by dent of his training that he doesn't obliterate the signs.
[ooc: I assume we can take a 20 on the survival check to track 'em. If not, um, I rolled a 1. ]
Hoping nobody noticed that, Grouk saunters over to wipe his bloody hands the torn canvas that once was in the wagon. He looks around the clearing to see if there are any useful plants or herbs growing in the sunlight.

Spellbook? You are a follower of Mysta? Is the spellbook yours? Perchance you could tell me a bit more about your journey?
My friends I do not think this is a simple bandit uprising. Normally this area is peaceful and the sudden appearance of these brutes is troubling. They dragged the cart from the road into the brush, and apparently found a secret compartment containing a spellbook. Can Ogres even read? So please Mr. Quicklever tell us a bit more about how you happened to be upon this road?

I run over to where Jordan is, to ask if he may stick with us for a bit. Perhaps he could help us locate the spell book, or make sense of this.
Actions1: Run over to where Jordan is. (if possible find the last arrow)
Actions2: "Hey, care to join us for a bit? Or at the least if you would spare us the answers for a few questions. "
"I do not know who mystra is, and know not much of spellbooks, but it all sounds quite important. Those Ogres sound like they have some leader, and I don't mean some Ogre chieftain either. Possibly an Ogre shaman, but I hope not. I hope its something quite interesting. If these ogres have a true general then for Tempus I would collect his head ."

I've also try a Survival check in the trail. I've rolled a 15 and my modifier is +6.
Jordan could take our mounts to Helmsdale, if it isn't that far. We can go there on foot after taking care of the ogres. So, Menas suggests that.

Not to impugn the honesty of our erstwhile companion who we've just met, but one non-combatant escorting several heavily laden horses more often than not ends with several other, more well armed, people making off with any remotely valuable objects the horses were transporting, if not the horses themselves.
