Cornflakes got Literature 2 turns before us, which is never a good thing. We only have Monotheism and Metal Casting to trade for though, so in this case it shouldn't hurt us much. We got the third Great Scientist, which I used to build an academy in Eden Prime. Philosophy bulb was a possibility, but no-one really has anything good we can trade for. Religion would have been a small bonus, but we don't need happiness and culture anymore. Also some players could already be researching it, so our monopoly might not have lasted long enough to get anything worthwhile out of it. Racing for stuff like Liberalism (which is usually the goal if you go Philo) isn't the best idea because some teams are running crazy numbers in research.
Our best bet is to focus on the army building. We lost two chariots to barbs in the west, which is a shame. I got unlucky with the first and was careless with the second. Army building is going slow; We are first building stuff like courthouses (a must on far-away cities), a market in Citadel for more gold, and of course the three monuments and SoZ. Hopefully I'm not delaying an attack too much, but it wouldn't be much use if we would go bankrupt after capturing the first city or if we couldn't even afford an army big enough to do anything with.
On a side-note, AT is expecting an attack. Archers and spears stacked up in the border city. Pure defense, which is good, because we know he isn't planning an attack and thus we don't need to reinforce our own border cities. I'm guessing that the lurker interaction made him sure that we were going to attack him earlier, and he is now distrustful of us because of it. I mean, considering how little units he has elsewhere, I wouldn't stack everything on one side of my empire if I didn't expect an attack. This should make our choice of target easier. Though I have to add, I'm building a quick scout in Noveria to check out the northern route to AT's lands. Would he expect an attack from there? Let's find out!
