Intersite Game - Turn Discussion Thread

You've been doing great work with the sandbox since you took over. At some point, we will have this game won no matter what we do and the sandboxing may cease, but until then, being able to pull off such coordinated micro several turns in advance is giving us a huge advantage.

Got the turn rolling mail from apt-mod:

Ouch. Looks like we just barely missed another big one frown. We've had some pretty lousy luck on this sort of thing.

Yeah, a pity, but at least we skip a distraction in the liberalism race. Almost certainly CivFr who got the artist (22 score increase), so I imagine they will start a golden age soon.

Another thing to remember is that we have hardly emphasised races or first-to bonuses. We've focused on empire development first and foremost, to have a bigger pile earlier rather than being the first to any particular thing.

Logged into the game, will play the turn tonight, but here's an early update. CivFr did get the Music Great Artist as expected, which is a downer but not the end of the world. We'll ignore Music and divert those beakers into Philosophy or Metal Casting techs instead, so we saved about 1000 beakers here in the Liberalism race. (Apolyton turned on research last turn and burned through 100 gold, but doesn't appear to have discovered a tech yet.) The free Great Artist was one of those things that we'd like to have, but was not integral to our larger plans. I expect that CivFr will use it to pop their own Mausoleum Golden Age and use that to revolt into Bureaucracy when they discover Civil Service.

The upside as I said before was saving beakers that go into the Liberalism race. CivFr is effectively out of this race now, because they've invested 2000 beakers into the top part of the tree that doesn't lead to Liberalism. That's not a waste by any means; they turned that tech beeline into the free Artist and an upcoming Great Library via their marble. But they need to research Drama, Civil Service, Philosophy, Paper, and Education to reach Liberalism, and there's no way that they can make up all those beakers on us. Not with our team going into our own Golden Age and with 1-2 Great Scientists available to lightbulb techs. (More dangerous: CivFr ignores Liberalism completely and simply goes for Nationalism tech to build Taj. We probably cannot beat them to the wonder if they do this without our own source of marble. Still a ways off but bears mentioning.)

So the attention is now on Apolyton in the Liberalism race. I think that we can beat them to the tech in a true race, we just have to watch and see what they're researching. In the worst case, we'll be able to use Golden Age + double Scientist lightbulbs + mass building of Weath in our vast empire. I do not think they can match that, Bureacademy capital or no. (Besides, we're also popping into Bureaucracy this turn, and can turn one of those Scientists into an Academy if we so choose.) Apolyton is currently up Philosophy tech on us in this race due to their past Great Scientist lightbulb. They are still missing basic techs like Iron Working and Calendar, and they don't have Aesthetics or anything on the top part of the tree behind it, for what that's worth.

Kjn, I took all those screenshots you requested, let me know where I should send them to you.

kjnoren at the usual provider.

I eyeballed the score changes for the lead teams, and the only new techs are for CivFr and Univers, I think.

I honestly don't know who is the usual provider. Sorry! Send me a PM, if you will.

Just because I was curious, I went and looked at a very rough sim of a pure Liberalism beeline. If we drop Metal Casting from our targeted path (which really sucks, as those forges are very valuable) then we can land Education with a Scientist lightbulb at the eot 128, the last Golden Age turn. Liberalism then follows on roughly T135. If we burn the second Scientist for a Liberalism bulb (accomplished by researching Alphabet tech first), we can cut that down to about T132. I would prefer to get Metal Casting and use one of those Scientists for an Academy in the capital, but those are the rough dates that we're looking at.

Hmm, in that case, where would we build the Taj? In our bureaucapital? And how can we guarantee that we'll have Marble available when we build the Taj? There's always a chance CFC could pull a Nic and refuse the resource trade to the runaway after a perceived slight.

And also, I'm a tad confused, are we or are we not building an academy in our capital with our next GPerson?

PS. post the screenshots with tile yields (ctrl-Y) enabled so we can bask in the glory of +1h and +1c on every single tile smile

I think the 2nd scientist would bulb Philo, not Lib?

Otherwise, agree completely I'd rather have an academy in the capital than tech alphabet and burn a scientist for a net gain of (guessing) ~700 raw beakers.

While Metal Casting is great, if Apolyton learns paper this turn I think we have delay MC for the lib line.
