Travel alert/Tech problem! I'm going to be doing a lot of traveling coming up over the next three weekends and I've had ungodly problems getting my laptop to connect to the game. If anyone has wondered what was up with my repeated login/logout entries in Civstats, that's it. I can get as far as downloading the game state all the way, but then I get a brief error that pops and disappears. I haven't been able to fully read it (I could do a cell phone video I guess) but I think it's talking about modified files. Thing is that last night I did a clean installation of Windows 7 (x64, FWIW), installed Steam, installed CIV/BTS, installed RB Mod 2.0.2, and tried to load in from my home network, which never gives me any trouble on my main computer. The only thing that is different between my regular game PC and the laptop that I can think of now is that I run Blue Marble on the regular PC and it isn't installed on the laptop. But I've connected in spite of this from secondary computers before so I'm not sure that's it. Does anyone have suggestions of anything else to try? Being in the trouble shooting business myself I know having a more specific error would help diagnose this, but the error is something like

Load Failed. blah blah blah modified files (or assets?) blah blah blah. But in a clean Steam install, what can be modified? (By the way, this is the same error I got last time I tried to play on this laptop, a few weekends ago. I thought it was my Dad's third rate Internet connection but apparently not. The only thing different that time was that I was playing on the Windows 8 x64 installation, and I thought that might be the problem so I tried Win 7 x64 instead on the same hardware. The hardware is known to be OK, I've played Civ on it before, months ago, before I wiped the factory OS install and installed Win 8 for the first time).

Failing being able to put in a fix for this or availing myself of a different laptop to use when I travel, can any lurkers play a few turns for me this month? I can leave instructions if needed because I'm fairly sure at this point there aren't many unspoiled people around who would be reading this thread.

Specific travel for this week is that I'll be away Thursday through Saturday (11th - 13th), all day. Next week it is Thursday through Sunday (18th - 21st). The following week I haven't nailed down the travel details for yet, but it's looking like that one will be four days as well (probably 23rd - 26th or 24th - 27th). If I can't get the laptop problem solved before I travel I won't have civ access for any of these dates and would definitely need a sub.

If no one has any ideas I'll try to capture the error message tonight when I'm back home. Oh, there was one other message, when I first load into the game I get an error about there being an unsuitable voice capture device, which I've not yet stamped out. I can look more into that one later, surely it isn't causing the connection problem.

I'm really sorry to everyone involved in this game, but I'll be away from Friday to Sunday evening (12th - 14th) to go back to Vienna, seeing my family. That wasn't planned but is necessary. I am not sure if I will have a internet connection available at the place I am going to tbh. So if xenu also can't find a sub for this weekend I wouldn't mind a pause.

so we're pausing again on friday the 12th? that actually works for me too, I was going to have trouble playing friday night. hopefully we can get 2 full turns in before then .

I was hoping to play one more turn before leaving but the turn rolled after I went to bed last night and I'm waiting at the airport now. Unless anyone is available to play for me I think this is it for the weekend. I'll post if I can somehow get my work laptop to play but otherwise I'm out of commission until Sunday AM US EDT.
