Shisak and I were talking and we ended up with Dragon Lance stories as a variant team event for the fall. Dragons of Autum Candlelight, or some such.
The kick start of the idea was Tassel Hoff Barb Foot, a Kender on steroids who used daggers and staves, maxed find items, used Taunt and Grim Ward, and then
Raistlin: Necro, maybe no life points allowed?
Goldmoon: How do you play an Amazon cleric? We are not sure on that one.
Tannis: An amazon, cross dresser, or a a Paladin Bow wielder? Latter preferred, as he was a group leader
Riverwind: warrior or barb
Sturm: paladin
Caramon: barb or paladin, but a pure warrior barb
Kit: maybe a melee sword/shield Amazon? Or, a sword shield Assassin, black leather required? Get a charged item to allow her revives to summon, to reflect her raising armies of evil?
Flint Fireforge: Not sure, probably paladin or barb. Maybe some sort of singer barb? Or is Flint a druid?
Anyway, the idea would be great for a team but needs some fleshing out.
Your inputs are solicited.
Since the Dragon Lance heroes were often not in the same scenario, we would merge and diverge as appropriate to get through the first two diffs.
In Hell, we might ought to all be in one team however.
HC or SC, I don't care which. Probably HC, but it matters not.

I have been re-reading the DragonLance Chronicles after reading Dragons of the Dwarven Depths and Dragons of the Highlord Skies and Occhi & I started bantering the idea around. I think it will be interesting to see how we all choose to build Diablo2 chars to match the DL chars. My thoughts on merc restrictions are:
Tanis - no merc
Sturm - an A2 prayer merc to be his squire and carry his Dragon Lance
Flint - an A5 Barb/Dwarf
Tasslehoff - an A3 fire mage (Fizban!)
Raistlin - an A5 Barb, but only if no one chooses Caramon
Caramon - an A1 Rogue, but only if no one chooses Tika
Tika - an A5 Barb, but only if no one chooses Caramon
Goldmoon - an A2 prayer merc to assist her clearical healing skills
Riverwind - an A5 Barb (fellow plainsman)
Kitiara - an A5 Barb/consort (latest conquest)
Laurana - an A1 Rogue/elf assistant
Gilthanas - an A1 Rogue/elf assistant
Elistan - an A2 prayer merc to assis his clerical healing skills

We also discussed the idea of no mercs at all ... it can go either way.
Inputs solicited.

For Goldmoon being an Amazon Cleric I see one chance: get her items with Holy Bolt charges and runewords with paladin auras. Edge or Harmony bow for ranged and Lawbringer sword or Insight staff for melee.

I forgot to state in my first post that no mercs at all is closer to the DL storyline, but if we want to use them then we should restrict what kind. As the books are fresh in my mind (I just finished Dragons of Autumn and am half way thru Dragons of Winter), here is my perception of possible char builds:
Tanis - Druid with HoW & Vines, two handed sword in primary weapons (Wyrmslayer) and Bow in secondary, cloth/leather armor.
Sturm - of course a Paladine, defensive auras with charge or zeal, two handed sword and heavy plate armor.
Raislin - Necro, curse/bone skills, of course the Staff of Magus, light robes (red changing to black in hell). Limited points in vitality.
Caramon - Barb, sword mastery/iron skin/nat res, sword & shield, heavy armor, lots of stat points into str.
Tika - Amazon, dodge/evade, sword & shield (shield should have Bash), mail armor (mix & match), has to play hostile with other chars (Tika is as dangerous with weapons to the companions as the enemy).
Goldmoon - I like Dr`Disaster's idea, pretty much mirrors my thoughts.
Riverwind - Barb, sword master & BO, two handed sword, leather armor.
Flint - Barb, axe mastery/iron skin/is there a grumble warcry?, two handed axe, mail armor.
Tasselhoff - Occhi has a good plan for a dagger Barb with Taunt, Find Item.
Laurana - Zon, non-summoning passive, sword & shield with Bow in 2nd, leather armor.
Gilthanas - Paladine, Defensive Auras, Bow in primary, sword/sheild in 2nd, leather armor.
Elistan - Paladine, healer (prayer/holy bolt), staff?, cloth armor.
Kitiara - Assassin, martial arts/shadow disc, sword & shield, blue plate mail.

Items that can have Holy Bolt charges are sceptres, paly shields, circlets and amuletts. The unique axes Spellsteel and Boneslayer Blade hold the best and most Holy Bolt charges available.
