Diplomacy Master Thread- Helping Your Opponents Beat Themselves

As Noble said, I expect to be in Nationhood and drafting constantly for almost the rest of the game. We are looking at finishing Taj Mahal around roughly T138-140, and will most likely pop into Nationhood at the end of that Golden Age (Turn 145ish). Then we keep drafting until we discover Assembly Line tech and get the combination of 2 pop drafted infantry and factory/power plants make drafting no longer appealing. That will be very, very far down the road. After Turn 200 in all likelihood.

It's not like the other options in the Legal column are all that compelling either. Vassalage is unnecessary since we'll be running Theocracy (and we have Shwedagon Paya for all religious civics). Bureaucracy loses most of its appeal on a Huge map where we'll have at least 20 cities, and potentially many more. I think we'll have 40-50 cities before this game is fully over. The economic alternative is Free Speech, and that's a good civic in its own right, but it pales to the ability to dial up endless waves of drafted maces/muskets/rifles on command. Remember, we're the runaway civ. Teams are going to be coming after us. Now that our Heroic Epic is done, I fully plan for us to be #1 in Power rating for the rest of the game. Make it look like any attempt to attack our team is completely hopeless before it even begins. smile

If it comes to it we can say that we agreed to not renew the NAP with them in a deal with another team. The other team wants to make them sweat I guess, but we don't intend to attack them.

That's interesting.. This approach could lead Germans to concentrate their forces to WPC border despite having no NAP with us and let us get first cities of the war for "free".

Nah, they wouldn't believe it anymore when t150 approached and our power was spiking. But I think it would get us through the marble turns no problem (if it's even necessary).

Our power won't start spiking in earnest until we're in Nationhood, at which point we won't need marble anymore.
I have to run.

Well, I think we can all agree to simply not broach the topic with them until they bring it up. And as I mentioned, I doubt that will be until at least t140 or so.

Response from CivPlayers. Communication with them this time around has been shockingly smooth and painless, so thanks to them for that. Feel like that should be noted since we (mainly me probably) whined a lot last time about how difficult they were to deal with. wink

Tx for the info on other civs. I'll have to check with my team to see which info we still need and I'll get back to you.

From WPC:

WPC Wrote:Hello,

that's OK. Probably makes them suspect the war even less.
We'll begin churning out the cats and supporting units from now on. I bet the German team will see the powergraph spiking up, but I believe they don't have a chance even if they prepare for war a little bit. Our two front attack plan will make sure of it. Also they don't have the cats that are really vital at this era. Lets make a specific attack plans together later. At this moment the best invasion route for us seems to be from very north. You can choose the best route for you, but it seems that the strategic copper resource is near your border, so that might be one prime target for you.

Also, your missionary in our lands seemed to move quite slowly. Try to keep your people running, OK. wink

I'm not sure if the missionary line is a joke..?

We didn't take a beeline to their requested city, but we also didn't delay the religion spread. Maybe they saw we ended turn off the beeline path and didn't realize it made no difference.

Probably not worth defending ourselves.

I suggest a reply saying something like:

Our turnplayer assures me that although the missionary took time along the way to spread the holy word to locals, he was sure to perform his mission in <Cityname> at the earliest possible turn he could have done so, no matter how much he hurried. If you prefer, next time we can tell him to spare not a glance for the peasantry.
