Would it be better to run max science for the next couple of turns, giving you the flexibility to run max tax again for a turn in the future if needed? How much are you planning to chop/overflow into the Taj? And where are you building it?

For a size 12 city that'll be 20+120+(somewhere between 2 and 100) = 142 to 240 gold. (For some reason that feels a bit light to me, but I'd trust T-hawk over my judgement any day...) So if you get both cities (and they aren't whipped massively down) you'll get between 300 and 500 gold - how many turns of teching can that support?

I think I will turn it on, and just maximize the empire for cash as much as I can. Ill have to drop down my rate if I can stretch it out, we'll see. but a few things like switching from a mine to furs in gilgamesh (first turn I could do that without slowing down the sistene).. and ill be switching to wealth everywhere I don't have something critical building. it has to be built in Gilgamesh - with the size 17 and Beuro bonus, no other city will be able to match its speed its output. I don't have any cities that could chop it out anyway. remember that city I said Brick was putting up a fight for? the one with like 20 spears? ![]() well hell. I hope he killed some knights ![]()

Do you plan to nearly complete some units/buildings there, then finish them with cascading overflow (novice-style) in the turns before you get Nationalism to give you a head-start?

no, I'll need to build wealth there to have any chance to start it in time to compete w/ commodore. there will be some overflow from the sistene that I'll save with the wealth build, but not a lot. but with a higher hammer out put and a 250% bonus to its construction, im not sure I need all that.
Azza's military is gone.. thats why I was building pikes - more worried about serdoa striking once he sees living end fall. im less worried about that now, though, and I do have some pikes and the one elephant left.

Overflowing two-turns worth of hammers (minus a handful) could speed the build up by two turns - I have a suspicion that might be more useful than building wealth (although I haven't logged in so I'm happy to be corrected!) and you also get some buildings/units out of the deal... Of course the overflow from Sistine affects those calculations too, so it's probably not clear-cut.
How many hammers is Gilgamesh making now? And what buildings does it need?

something like 75/turn into the sistene - which will have all the same modifiers as the taj. its ~42 gpt with wealth build, which is massively useful too.
it doesnt really NEED any buildings. I could build a monastery or courthouse and get some use out of it, but those are certainly not critical. If I did that the overflow from sistene would be wasted - I cant afford to not complete it, as I think Plako may be trying to build it and we're only 2 turns away from finishing. I can save that overflow with a wealth build but if I switch to another building or unit it will go into that build. Also, the quickness of the build isn't as much of an issue as the speed of nationalism - making sure I'm still in the golden age once its finished, and that I haven't given commodore too big of a headstart. commodore won't be ina golden age and isn't IND (although he does have marble as well) so I'll be able to build faster than him. and I don't think he'll be rushing it since he knows no one else can beat him to lib now and hopefully won't see the manual research coming.

(April 24th, 2013, 20:39)Lewwyn Wrote: Go go Culturing Winning! Mighty morphing Culture Winning! hehe this is getting fun. so we're 1 turn away from sistene, and it still hasn't fallen. so to quote Sulla, "we're guaranteed at least a coinflip at this point." turn 184 report is version 2.0, now with sign mode on! strike force Alpha: ![]() i moved here to the village rather than the hamlet one east to deprive azza of the extra commerce. interestestingly enough, azza was set to grow to 13 here at EOT - but the governor assigned the citizen I evicted to a specialist slot instead of a farm or coast tile, so he didn't grow (I have city visibility so could spy on his governor)! oops, hehe! I do want him 13 though, so hopefully he'll work a farm this turn. So last turn was azza's last to move any of the archers from presets to his capital. he didn't, so they are stuck there. if they moved now I could whack 'em in open territory on flat land. also note that the GG medic chariot caught up with the main stack. useful if he decides to unleash his cats. strike force Bravo: ![]() nice little supporting stack. team alpha will hold while the cats bombard defenses, then turn 2 with the 2 stacks combined we'll capture the city. azza's defense: ![]() at EOT he completed a cat in both tenacious D and muse, so add 2 cats to this stack and thats pretty much what he'll defend with. he may be able to squeeze out 1 more cat out of tenacious D the same turn I attack (I think he can 2 turn them here). strike force Charlie: ![]() azza moved the archer on the fort next to serdoa's border back to the living end. he spent almost all his cash to upgrade the archer that was fortifying here to a longbow. no matter - the CR2 macement has 62% odds straight up vs the longbow, so with 2 cats, 2 other macemen, and a crossbow, Im pretty sure I can take it in one turn. if he moves units out of tenacious D to defend it, then I'll just sit and bombard the walls down for a turn or two, but that will make tenacious D fall even quicker. if he's smart he'll evacuate both archers to tenacious D, but we'll see. ![]() my only whip of the turn. with overflow i should be able to 2 pop whip this market the turn we revolt to caste. demos: ![]() ok, here's the good news on the taj front: ![]() I took this after the turn rolled. only 7 turns! I thought it would be 9, way more overflow than I anticipated ![]() other good news - commodore went from 830ish stockpiled cash to 532 in one turn. that means unless he ramps up the wealth build he should only have 1.5-2 turns of 100% science. im hoping he gets a little lax now that he sees slowcheetah has no chance to beat him to liberalism, and isn't scared and/or doesnt notice we picked up philosophy. anyway, his golden age ends in 4 turns, where as we'll have at least 6 golden age turns to put into building the taj (plus IND on him - im assuming he'll switch back to OR before he leaves the golden age). without modifiers are capitals have roughly the same output, but we have an extra 50% modifier on him, and the golden age will give us 9 extra base hammers (or 31 per turn with modifiers) - and thats if I don't decide its worth losing some commerce by working the furs over a village. so we'll certainly be able to produce a lot faster. really hoping commodore leaves his golden age without liberalism and nationalism - if that happens, I think we're golden. I'm not really good enough at C&D at this point to figure out how much progress into liberalism he's made - I think he's pretty close to our gnp out of a golden age, but the GA boosts him more, of course, since he has more tiles. but we're going to be able to cut it pretty close either way ![]()
