@Commodore: Not that you needed that, but as a lurker I want to see you (and everyone else) play the best game possible. This means no wars unless they make sense etc.
Also, your thread is... a treat! Thanks again.

Never fear, war and playing to win do, in fact, go together quite often. This isn't a death-slog, this is trying to snap up a goodly number of cities; if I can take the Azzan Isles, I'm up 5(7) cities, which puts me much more comfortably near Plako and Serdoa. For our first event, here's what we're looking at next turn:
Here's the complex current events. One of the Ind guys tackling Nationalism (Serdoa, Bigger, maybe Plako) can gun for the Taj Mahal. I hope Bigger makes it, otherwise we're in trouble, but I am betting on Serdoa (yay research visibility). For myself, a Great Scientist and a bulb of Printing Press is just fine.
Tech Tree, because its been a while. I think it'll be worth it to divert to Printing Press next turn, because we have a lot of villages and towns. Then, back to Gunpowder, Banking, Replaceable Parts, Rifling. At that point, we ought to have our next GP to allow a golden age around then. Then HOLY WAR FOR INDIA or PACIFIC DOMINION time, with a possible sideline to FREEDOM AND MONEY. It's subtle, but care to guess those plans' details?
Within two more turns, I'll have a decent fleet of seven galleons, and more will come online as I can make them. For the nice hammer cities like Hawks' Ridge here, though, the big deal will be universities. Oxford is just so critical; getting it online a dozen turns before Plako or Serdoa might give me the edge. Still, you're getting boats and blood too, no worries. Also, as in this galleon's case, peaceful colonization.
Turn: 189

P.S. Barracks are smelly. I dunno.

Freedom and money: Democracy and Economics, I assume.
Holy war for India: Theology for Theocracy, invade with rifles?
Pacific Dominion: Pacifism and beeline Communism for SP? idk
Also, I assume that with the religious quest you're on, Thoth is getting his revenge for that terrible tundra island you didn't settle?
Playing: PB11

2 out of 3...I'm calling the Western Ocean the Pacific. I might make war on the waves, depends on how much the Aztecs/Dutch/French want those islands as well. And no, still ain't settling that little crappy island, I have snow-fish spots at least.
Not forgetting this:

I am of the tinfoil hat theory that Catwalk is in fact the greatest troll persona ever created, for nobody could truly be that retarded in his ideas. Slow is unfortunately someone who kinda goes with the flow, which means I expect massive, massive amounts of failure from this team. I dislike the RBmod Sury quite a bit, but he has his advantages, and France is still France. I hope so very badly to be near them...delicious.
Combo:B
Player(s):C- And look... all the sudden you're right next door!
I'd be interested in an updated ranking, if you've got the gumption.
Heh, I stand by my original thought, if Catwalk had been driving. However, he left or was discarded, and we're left with just Slow, who has played an outstanding game. Seriously, I was having to push for Liberalism hard there, and I've won the Lib race in every game I've played since PB5.
Slowcheetah has stepped up his game and is quite reasonably in fourth place right now. The only reason he's not in first is that the current medalists ate Zululand, Arabia, and Scandinavia, while he's just been REXing in peace. His real shot is to win a good war; currently Zululand 2.0 is his best shot, but I know he's in a nasty place with Plako and I at his sea borders. He's definitely not "delicious". I'm upgrading him to "tough, chewy, scary spines".

Ah, in that case Pacific Dominion is Chemistry for Frigates, potentially followed by Military Science for Ships of the Line?
