Intersite Game - Turn Discussion Thread

I appreciate Ruff's critiques and Sullla's execution of gameplan. Just wish the discussion could be kept a little more considerate because not everyone can be at the livestream or be part of every decision. This is a team game and I'd hate to see honest critiques not being brought up after the decision because the stereotype of RB being antisocial neck beards is true. Would you rather have the discussion before or after something bad happened?

Re the tech rate. We need 40% and then 100% to finish Engineering next turn.

After the current turn, we will have 260g. We need 258 to run at 80% (which doesn't land Eng) and 368 to run at 100% (which does). So ... we are 110g short - hopefully pillage and city sack gold will get us there. The other option is to micro and / or build gold.

I saw that someone mentioned borrowing gold from WPC - I think that is an option worth exploring on the off chance that we come up a few gold short.

Wouldn't that be difficult to coordinate if we can't login outside our window?

Hahaha wow these comments. This is like when something good would happen in a turn in PB8 and instead of taking a minute to enjoy it, Noble would only want to tell me I had a dumb typo in my turn report. I mean it's ok, I expect it from him and it's actually sort of funny to me, but I didn't think this whole thread would be negative when I got back. Geez guys, 11 months after this game organization started we finally got to declare war and immediately burn a city. Can we enjoy it for a few hours?? lol

Anyways.

The only units that could make it to that tile this turn were 2-movers and it would have been dead. We could have done that this turn with a mace this turn if we had been more on the ball. Peal off one of the main stack maces last turn and move it 1 tile north - then it could have made it to that forest hill this turn.

I think we need some more discussion about war plans and little tactical decisions like this.

There is literally nothing about our turn that would have been done differently if we had a unit on that forested hill. We were able to see all tiles that could have hit our stack, and we didn't need the forested hill to do that. If we had a mace on that hill and spied their stack 2tiles north (or nothing at all)... so what? You're also ignoring the fact that we don't have Engineering, therefore the only way to get a Mace onto that tile this turn would have been to walk him right up to the border when we were trying to at least mostly attack out of the fog, so it's not like there's 0 downside to doing it.

edit: also look, we've had this plan in place for WEEKS. There was plenty of time to make that suggestion. Hours after it happened is not really that time.

So I went ahead and tested what happens when we end our turn, now that the clock was about to hit zero. The mod is not as bad as we had feared: we can still log into the game after ending turn, and move units, and so on. I am assuming that the Germans are still barred from logging in, although there's no way to tell. In other words, I think that we can feel free to end turn when we're done playing without any repercussions, and still log in to check things, etc. That will be a nice way to keep the game moving along.

We won't be able to log in during the new turn (T151) until after the Germans play though, so we likely won't be able to take further action until Monday.

If we are short X gold from finishing Engineering next turn and WPC happens to have X gold available, why would we not consider asking them for a 2 turn loan to ensure we get Engineering one turn earlier?
It costs us nothing, we cement our alliance and this turn showed how it would have been nice to have Engineering already.
Sullla has firmly said "no" to the idea in the stream, I just wanted to ask why we would not consider it?

And to make clear, this is not a turn player bashing post, I really enjoyed the stream, we have made good progress and there is always a better plan in hindsight. The chance of the Germans to have a sizeable stack in the far west is minimal, so we should be fine there. Even if they have tons of material there in Wombatshausen, then that means that those troops are not in the way of our main stack.

I went code-diving through the mod to see how it would behave - a task not aided by the relevant parts being in Spanish.

That said, I'm pretty confident that the way the mod works is only teams without anyone after them in war order can log in after they've ended turn. So the Germans should not be able to log in after we end turn and before the turn rolls.

I assume the idea behind not asking for a loan is that we don't want to owe WPC anything. Imagine if we get them to give us the loan, speeding up engineering, and later we end up at one of the cities on their half before they do, in part due to getting engineering a turn earlier. WPC is going to feel ridiculously cheated if we use that early engineering (or even if we don't, but appearances are everything) to beat them to one of "their" cities, and all they get out of it is a couple gold in interest. If we get to "their" cities under our own power because WPC got bogged down, well, they won't be happy, but they'll probably accept it given our discussions on the matter.

I think I'd have preferred to have only two C1 units in the mini-stack due to hit Wombatshausen in the west, but at the same time I have less MP experience than most people here, and it wouldn't impact our plans, so I see no real cause for complaints.

As for putting a unit on the forested hill, we did discuss it, but we thought it was only defensible with a disposamace, and when we did think of it, we didn't have any mace far enough north to reach that tile this turn.

I was pretty surprised by how quickly Sullla played the turn. I would play a comparably pivotal turn quite a bit more deliberately in my own games, and that's with 0-1 teammates to discuss with, as opposed to dozens.

Especially with quite a few people available to comment in real time and with them all having a high-quality view of the situation, I thought it was something of a missed opportunity to optimize our play more than is possible with only a lone turnplayer and forum-speed feedback. But also, I understand that streaming an awkward and slightly disjointed conversation, rather than an hour of entertainment, might not be what Sullla wanted to do.

I did quite enjoy the stream - it was worth waking up early for.
