You can't get gold from pillaging improvements in your own territory.

Would it be too much of a problem to reveal that we are teching Engineering to the french? I think it'd make the message more friendly. Of course, if we want secrecy regarding our techs, better not do it.

You can't get gold from pillaging improvements in your own territory.

Whip everything into the ground and pillage your tiles. Lets get the CivFR thing done, the turn around times on this team for things requiring prompt attention needs a little work.

Wow, that sounds like a very dirty trick by CFC. I'm sorry to hear that - they have been very difficult to us too. We are currently bound to a NAP with CFC until T175, and we are in the middle of our own war anyway as you might have seen.

However, we talked about it as a team and we'd be happy to help you guys out somehow. We are finishing Engineering at the end of T152 and really don't want to delay that, but after that we can spare some gold. We're making about X gold per turn at max tax. Also, you can run the trade mission in one of our cities if you'd like. Unlike some, we are an honest team, so if you can make it that far we will not give you any trouble.

Maybe we can work together in the future - it seems to me that we may have common enemies. We do have full maps on CFC, so if you want, we could also exchange maps with you.

We can get back to how much later. The main thing is that we're telling them when they can expect the cash, and how much we could conceivably generate. (I don't know what X is.)

If they ask for all of our gold for multiple turns, they will presumably offer something in return. But by leaving it open, we hopefully come across as generous while leaving it to them to suggest the actual terms.

How about instead of low balling them, we actually make them a reasonable offer, to try to actually earn their friendship? I know this is an alien concept at Realms Beyond, but we could turn over a new leaf...

I meant it as a starting point; that's why i also asked what they would want. But i definitely didn't word that like i meant it!

I don't like the "somehow" and the "some" in the help paragraph. Suggestion:

Our team talked about helping you and we'd be happy to do it. We are finishing an important tech at end of T152 that we cannot delay, but after that we can help you with gold. How much would be useful? Also, you can run the trade mission in one of our cities if you'd like. Unlike some, we are an honest team, so if you can make it that far we will not give you any trouble.

I guess I am the dissenting voice who is uncomfortable with sending gold to CivFr. Our economy isn't exactly rolling right now, and if we were to miss out on the GSpy at Communism by 1-2 turns, or drafting rifles when it might stave off a dogpile, for the nebulous possibility that CivFr befriends us . . . I am just not sure where the conjecture of a possible working relationship with a team that has shown no diplo inclination all game outweighs the tangible benefit of gold, and all the tech that that brings.

If naked self interest (getting more land from CivP or CFC) and resource trades aren't enough, I am not sure where a gold gift really improves things.

Not the only one...I think its money down the drain. We don't need CivFr as an ally, we need them as an enemy of CFC and that's fait accompli.
