lol

And you wonder why people don't contribute.

Meh, there's no hard timeline or any proposed so I don't understand why this comment is such a big deal. We'll be getting MTrad eventually in any situation.

Gunpowder will currently take 9t to research, assuming a 30% science rate (current breakeven), probably 7 or 8t in practice. Alpha > PP will take 13t by the same measure, probably 10 or 11t in practice - we will gain capture and pillage gold, lower our costs by getting fewer units in foreign land, and get economic buildings up.

Muskets cost 10H more than maces, but IMO they're not that great an upgrade over maces when drafted.

Right now, no team has Gunpowder yet, though several teams can research it.

Thanks kjn. In my opinion this is a pretty compelling argument in favor of Alpha/PP.

At this pace however, it doesn't seem we can reach Rifling by T175, right? It is T151 now and we'd need some 10/11 for Alpha/PP and another 6/7 for Gunpowder which is around T168. We would still need Banking/RP/Rifling which I am pretty sure would need more than 7 turns.

EDIT: FWIW, I also interpreted Sullla's comment on MilTr as hyperbole for dramatic effect.

Yeesh, relax everyone. Two things are not helpful. 1) Overstated comments with no real support/explanation. It's trollish, in that all you're doing by making a claim like that (we will likely never research this tech that basically everybody techs in a normal MP game) with no explanation is baiting for these types of responses to a zero-substance post. 2) Shooting down posts from team members who have proven to be valuable is not a real great habit either, despite how difficult said valuable member is prone to be. :P

Sometimes I feel like I should fabricate nasty emails from CFC so that everyone can have something else to be mad about instead of this trivial stuff that gets discussed while we're waiting for the other teams to play their turns. lol

Considering the turn report doesn't even mention Miltrad, I suspect that Sulla was talking about "will tech Miltrad at some point" instead of "will tech Miltrad now".

I like 7's point that Gunpowder is irrelevant for the German War. Here are the brief tech paths we want soon, in no particular order:

1) Alphabet-PP

2) Gunpowder

3) Banking-RepParts-Rifling

4) Music-Miltrad

I like Alpha-PP first (for the eco), then Banking (more eco), then going back to Gunpowder. Afterwards, the real question is RepParts-Rifling first or Music-Miltrad first.

That's pretty funny! smile So... what did CFC say?

EDIT: @Nicolae: I just checked and RepParts needs both Banking and PP. Cuirassiers also need Gunpowder.

No mention of the possibility of Chemistry and beyond?

I mean, Rifling is the best military tech for us since we are permanently in nationhood. But Cannons seem like the best support unit for defending, even though Cavalry are really great too.

That's why my proposed tech path had PP and Banking before RepParts and Gunpowder before Miltrad wink

Okay, so Chem-Steel is yet another brief tech path option. Chem would be nice now that we're going to be switching towards Workshops, but I don't know the best priority. Unfortunately, Scimeth-Communism is looking further and further away, our tech rate sucks frown.

Another economic option is Constitution after Banking, and doing a double-revolt into Rep-Merch. Might be a bit pointless considering how much effort we've been putting into getting Open Borders.

Muskets are str 9 while maces are str 8. However, they are much stronger against units that have pluses against melee units (ie axes, crossbows, etc) than maces are. So - if we are going to be fighting axes, maces, crossbows, etc - I would prefer muskets to maces.

Aren't War Elephants and Longbows enough for fighting Anti-Mace units?
