The game has been down for quite awhile, and basically nobody has played or updated their thread of any significance... There's nothing new to discuss. And yet, the lurker thread has been chattering all morning and now into the afternoon. Guessing this has something to do with the Rifles Commodore is almost certainly in the midst of picking up . Or he has another 6 move boat or something we aren't aware of. Nobody besides us or Commodore has updated in over 24 hours, so yeah, not hard to work that one out.
So, pindicator, how screwed are we? Very?

We've always been screwed, it's just a matter of how soon that final turn comes.
I'm pushing frigates everywhere. Our best way to defend against rifles is to keep them from landing in the first place. But like you said yesterday, we're tired of defending.
My prediction for Commodore's move this turn:
He stacks all his frigates + galleons in one stack. He won't be able to head south to threaten Culver's, but he will be able to see that we have only 15 knights in Sid's and guess the other 15 are in Culver's. I suppose he may send a frigate south on its own to confirm this, but he may not want to give up a frigate with us showing a modern navy.
He has 6 frigates by Jamba Juice, 5 tiles away from our main naval stack. So two options: he either moves his 8 galleon/7 frigate stack north to join with those 6 units, and then head north to threaten Dominos. Or he moves those 6 frigates south and stacks everything up by Sid's Sushi to keep us occupied in the south. I'm guessing he goes for the latter. By keeping us focused in the south, he probably hopes to then move his galleons with rifles in up north and take out Dominos.
So assuming he stacks up by Sid's, that will be his 14 frigates and 8 galleons against our 13 or 14 frigates and 12 galleons. We have 10 frigates in the main stack, another frigate in Sid's, another 1 or 2 on the fort tile by Sid's, and another 1 or 2 in the lake within range. He's not taking out our navy quite yet.
Probably too many moving parts to start planning for next turn, but I'm not sure moving out will be a slam dunk. If he goes north, I think launching the invasion becomes very tempting. If he stays south then it gets more difficult.
I also forgot to mention that we have 2 frigates up north that are nearing Dominos. If Comm doesn't move his blockading frigates then they will try to pick those units off, starting with the wounded frigate north of Dominos.
Figure we have 2 or maybe 3 turns until galleons filled with rifles show up...

Yeah we're basically fried once Rifles start landing because of our lack of cats, so I'm all-in for taking a ridiculous risk if the opportunity presents itself. Our current setup is pretty flexible, so we'll just wait and see how Commodore reacts.

You're right that if he's got nav boats coming in from the fog then we're in trouble. But we have our hands full just dealing with the real threats let alone the possible ones

Oh right, I'm not suggesting we should be able to handle stuff like that. If he gets a bunch of nav boats and burns us that way, so be it. I'm just running scenarios in my head of what he COULD do that's so interesting the lurkers can't stop talking about it, and it's a depressing thought exercise.

The lurkers are just all abuzz because plako thought it a good time to ally with Lewwyn to come and finish you off for good. You know, hit them while they're down and all that.

Even people in other games are plotting to come invade you. Seven can do it with the code, I hear. At least, that's what I'm drafting for
