Imperium 37 (gentle) - the cheese stands alone

I haven't played MoO in a long time, and wasn't very good when I did play, so I went with the gentle variant. Extra production on the homeworld led to rapid expansion. By 2342 I had a 7-world empire:

I decided to press on to Artemis (the green desert planet near the nebula) and Vulcan (the white desert beyond it). The Meklars declared war and took Artemis, then we had a long war of transports. Since I had more planets, more population, and fewer factories, I thought this was in my favor. I also conquered Gion (the yellow steppe planet) from the Meklars after they colonized it. Then the Bulrathi came along and poached it from me. About this time, the Meklars asked for peace, which I was happy to give to them.

After peace, here was my empire in 2381 (mouse pointer is on Gion).

I spent some time on tech and development. After Tundra came in, I colonized Proxima (the red tundra near my homeworld), which triggered the first council election:

Which I won handily. Game over; I built no warships and just a few missile bases. Kind of anticlimactic.

Welcome DaveV, it is always nice to see new guys joining the Imperia games! Congratz on your superfast win. For a moment I wondered why your game went so smooth until I noticed that you played vanilla MOO.

If you are looking for a real MOO challenge next time, you might wanna try kyrub's fan patch... wink

Nad - thanks for the welcome; I played some of the really old Imperia, so I'm not really new. I'm also not sure I need anything to make the game more difficult, but if kyrub's patch is the new standard, I'll switch to it. Is there a place to download it (I think his MoM patch was lost in the forum update)?

So I am the newbie of us two...

The latest version of kyrub's patch is just a few clicks away:

I do not know whether the MOM patch is lost. I may have it on my harddisk.

Thanks for the report, DaveV - is this really your first since Imperium 11?!

Congratulations on the win! If you felt the ending was anticlimactic though, you could have abstained and played on. (If you were playing for score, the scoring system even encouraged this to an extent, since building up your colonies at least through 2425 and claiming enough of the galaxy to win at least by domination scored better than early wins, but it doesn't look like you were going for score in any case.)

I hope you had fun with this one anyway - I hope you give Imperium 38 a try when it rolls around as well!

To show how rusty I am, I didn't even make any note of the scoring rules, and just played for an early win. It was fun, thanks for sponsoring.
