I've got to admit that some spells are very nice though, flameshield for example. Turn it on, and if you have the mana you can kill a full room or mini-bosses easily. I also think the crow storm and timestop are pretty useful.
The Chakram is also pretty useful, especially if you are a Spellsword and can replenish your mana. I've defeated the 4th boss with this combination, at level 91.
The last boss... That'll probably take me way longer...

In general I think it also depends on how you upgrade your manor. One guy on the Steam forums was a fan of the archmage, so naturally he upgraded mainly mana and magic damage and was even able to equip sage gear. According to him, he could kill everything with spells and never run out of mana.
I can see that working, if you really tweak your gear/rune/upgrades.
BTW, what's the most money you got in one run? My record is still around 13,000 - usually my adventure ends somewhere in the tower.

~12000 was my best run, the one where I defeated the second boss.

I scored 35k in my best run and can hit 10k routinely. The best run involved a Helios ring and then guessing right at the treasure chest guy after getting over 11,000 gold
