What I wrote in the tech thread was necessary, but in reality this isn't exactly a cut and dried situation. Say Bigger thinks he still has a chance at winning next month but nobody else thinks he does? Does he have the right to play on? To expect us to play on? But certainly us pressuring him to give up his attempt at this point was too soon. And bringing it up in the tech thread was really bad form. (Really, if plako wants to remove all doubt and end the game then he needs to take his frigates over to Lewger Land and burn some cities. Or may Bigger put resources in something other than culture. With the rest of the world at war, now's the perfect time.)
So yeah, sticky wicket.
Just so people know my frame of mind, I honestly don't know if I'm going to pick this game up again after July 17. I'm going to operate like I will, but we'll just have to see.
Well, to be honest I was considering just reading the lurker thread and declaring myself spoiled for a bit today. (I still am.) One thing that isn't sitting right with me is yet again having Commodore do diplo with us. He's been the most egregious violator (okay, the only violator) of that rule that I can think of. He's initiated chats at least several times where he's discussed pb8 events. And I get why - this is just a fun, casual game for him. But it's something the rest of the teams aren't doing, and the information he's given us on those chats has been things we didn't know at the time.
So I was strongly considering not offering Commodore peace and instead proceeding as I would have played the turn without having that information. In fact, I loaded up the turn prepared to slam our frigates into his stack and retreat the garrison out of Culver's to try to recapture the city with catapult support.
Instead, I'm stuck in a diplo screen:
Now this I'm okay with. If he wants to offer peace then that means the whole thing was on his initiative and the result is the same thing that would have happened had he never opened his mouth about a peace deal to scooter to begin with. I'm happy to accept this peace and feel okay about it.
Okay, I toyed with the idea of movign our fleet north and just declare straightaway on Serdoa. But nah, we're in builder mode. Walls everywhere, followed by Castles. I'm saving gold and we'll turn on the slider to full EP once we have castles everywhere.
Stealing time!
Unless you think we should help xenu out? We do have 30 frigates with nothing to do... But Serdoa is supplying us with stone at the moment
91 turns of whip unhappiness at Diary Queen (I took the pic the turn after 248 when I realized I hadn't taken one )
So Congratulations Regoarrarr! What do you want to name our next city? We aren't going to sail to some ice island now that we have peace with Commodore, but we are going to settle it on an island to share food with Starbucks and get some more FIN coastal tiles worked. Fast food of choice?
For the 2nd part, Cornflakes is our big winner! We had 63 turns of whip anger across the empire on t248 (translating into 581 turns of whip-anger, yikes!), so that was a very good guess!

By the way, he did basically post that in the tech thread too.
Anyway, I halfway feel bad about the "diplo" in a game where it's clearly banned, but the reality is nobody outside of Bigger and Plako is actually playing this anymore. I think if everyone else wants to just hit enter to speed up Plako's chance to end Bigger, that's okay. Nobody else is playing to play, they're playing to humor Bigger's hopeless cultural attempt, so it's not even a real game anymore.
FYI: I would be more sympathetic if he were even vaguely close, but he's wayyyy off right now. Plako will have tanks before then.
Also, if Bigger wants to be upset at someone (and he has some right to that), he should really just be pissed at us for propping up Azza with those horses way back . If he rolls over Azza instead of the thousand year(s) war, his culture attempt probably is a lot more legitimately dangerous.
