only 2 riverside cottage spots (1 plains). I guess we can't have it all though. we will have at least 5 hill tiles in our capital to mine (not counting hill pigs) which will go nicely with all this food to crank out units or wonders once we get some happy. maybe we'll get a gems or gold in the fog.
I think we move the scout W of the pigs. I can't imagine we move the settler east and give up the pigs, even if there's fish in that coast.
thoughts?

yes well. the chokonu idea sounds fun. I can't see us going for another cultural victory on big and small. if we somehow are in a very defensive position, maybe, but big and small isn't really suited for that and I regret trying in pb8, tbh.

Eh, settle in place? OR move 1S or 1e? Those are both PH tiles. That's an extra hpt and IMO worth moving on the first turn. Additionally we can pick up a riverside grassland tile to cottage by not settling on it. Moving 1S still puts 2 food first ring and one pig 2nd ring. This also allows us to more easily share the north pig with a city to the north in the future. I think I favor settling 1S. We should move the scout in a direction that will give us the most information on whether we should move the settler 1S or 1E. Maybe SE-NE?

I think we should settle 1S, because of the two locations it seems to be moving to river grass rather then plains, and I think 3e 1s is coast.
I like SE/NE for scout.

ok. of the two options I prefer 1S - because it seems like that will pick up more riverside tiles, and also it doesnt pick up any ocean tiles - 1e looks like we will have a second ring ocean tile, which would be annoying eventually (plus if it has crabs we are going to feel pb8 deja vu and be pissed off, lol).
i was thinking to move the scout onto a hill, either SE, SE, or SE, E. but if you think SE, NE will give us more information, that works as well.

im getting pretty excited about china. I was thinking of our early techs. we have mining and ag. all we really *need* for early worker techs is hunting (for pastures) and bronze working. then we'll be set for 40 turns or so.
we will want the wheel and pottery soon, too, but not urgently. so why not get a head start on our oracle-cho-ko-nu plan after bronze working? we can grab hinduism for our fourth tech, which will surely be enough. I know thats super early, but its an 18 person game w/ some unknowns that might pull a catwalk, so this is probably the only way we are able to get it.
was thinking, for techs (subject to change if we find deer or furs, I guess, or whatever): hunting-BW-mysticism-polytheism-thewheel-pottery-priesthood
BW will be nice as well - since we are SPI, we can revolt and use it to whip out our first settler, if we wish, rather than waiting for it to finish to revolt.
we could also grab priesthood sooner, if we are in a position to start the oracle, or if buddhism falls. I think we'll need to start it asap.
anyway grabbing one of the early religions would be very nice, especially since we are bound to get a great prophet eventually if we build the oracle.
