The Quarterdeck - Turn Discussion Thread

* This plan gets out 4 GP from the non-NE cities in 10 turns.
* Sale is starved from 10 > 6 and holds at 6 to complete 2nd GP.
* It is not effective to starve New York to get a 2nd GP out here.
– – NE comes online in Havana and quickly outpaces NY.
* Havana hires 6 specialists as soon as NE completes
– – Havana's finishes a 5th GP 1-2 turns after first GA ends.

Assumptions
1) 1st GP pops a GA, 2nd and 3rd build Academies
2) Havana begins working 6 specialists as soon as NE completes
3) 4th and 5th GP's pop a second GA with maybe 1 turn break
– – Timing can be adjusted by hiring additional specialists.

I just saw this. See my posted plan above. I took this into consideration and determined that it's not worth it to starve New York. Sale has 9 food surplus and can regrow quickly. Getting another GScientist out of Sale allows us to use both the NY and AaV specialists for Academies, while still having 2 more GPeople by the time the first GA finishes (Havana may be a turn or two late for back-to-back GA's).

Effectively this either speeds up an Academy by 10 turns (and those 10-turns all in Golden Age) or it speeds up the 2nd Golden Age by roughly 8-10 turns. IMO this is worth losing 6 pop in Sale.

In case it wasn't clear, my plan includes just one GP out of New York, not continuing to starve down. The plan includes the starve-down to show that it's not effective because of the NE completing in Havana.

Another separate issue is whether it's worth starving 2 pop from New York to get it's GPerson out 4 turns sooner. If we don't starve on those 2 turns it'll take 6 turns to finish the GP ad food-neutral. We'll be in a GA, and both Maracaibo and Jan Juan (the likely targets for academy) will be pushing 75 base bpt. 4 turns then is worth 300 beakers. The 2 starved pop would just work coast anyway. I think it's worth the trade, but maybe not.

Uh, isn't the 4 turns only worth 150 since Academies are only +50%?

First impression was that the 4th GP isn't worth starving down to Size 6 in Sale, but then remembered that it's a fishing village with high food and is meant to be whipped. We're not planning on doing much more starving after this, right?

Wondering if the increased Golden Age production will counteract removing the Organized Religion modifier...

Havana makes 18 base hammers, 24 in a Golden Age (26 if we work the plains cottage), so it makes 27 hammers out of a GA and 30 (or 32) in a GA.
184 - 33/250 +18
187 - 87/250 - kick of GA +30
193 - 267/250

...forgot to mention that that shot of Havana was EOT, delaying the NE by 1 turn, sorry.

As for how much Rice is worth: the Rice is worth 4 Scientists in terms of food gained at the moment, and most of those Scientists are in +50% University cities, so I'm guessing Rice is worth ~22 beakers (since Barbados has a 300% modifier). 10 gpt/16 beakers seems a good, if a tiny bit high. Going to start in-game negotiations with Gillette if there aren't any objections.

Oh, right. Academy is only worth 50%. My bad.

No objections to starting in-game negotiations.

I looked over the Sale plan and discovered that I could really improve it. We now get the GP out 1 turn later, but only starve to size 8 (rather than 6). Timing is not critical since this GP will be combined with another from Havana for the 2nd GA. We just need to make sure that Sale's finishes first. I'll re-evaluate around T195 once we have a more concrete idea of Havana's timing. I could slow down the GP another turn and only starve a single pop.

Updated the picture above, but reposting below. Main difference is that I wait as long a possible to starve while still finishing the GP before the GA finishes (to get that extra +100%).

FYI I'll have limited civ access this Wednesday-Sunday, so I'll just be covering the PB9 turns. No reporting or micromanagement for those days.

NE doesn't get built until T193. But since the Havana counter apparently doesn't count the GPPs we're getting now from the Mercantilism Engineer, we should still get the Great Person T201.

The Havana counter was just a 15-second estimate. I also didn't account for the fact that the 100% GA modifier disappears after the end of the GA. Considering that Q said he's going to be out of town for 4 days and T193 is still 10 turns away I'll probably re-evaluate the GP positions in 2-3 weeks lol

Have you swapped the Rice over to Santiago yet? We want to grow that thing as soon as possible to take those 3 shared towns when Havana goes to specialists and farms.

Swapped Deer to Santiago. Started farming over Havana. Offered Rice/10 GPT to Gillette. Put Port Royal on Wealth. Still growing New York - do we steal tiles from Maracaibo or do we grow onto plains?
