Intersite Game - Turn Discussion Thread

That's very gracious of Sullla. My sincere hope is that any changes lead us to a place where the turnplayers and lurkers alike are having fun with the game, and not being frustrated or feeling attacked on either side. The old Apolyton demogame, despite the less advanced level of play, remains my most enjoyable civ experience for the camaraderie the team shared smile

So, right now we're looking at a ton of units bearing down on us in just a few turns. Fortunately we do seem to have a consensus towards adding more military builds and slaving and drafting more units. I've been speaking with a few other active players, and we agree that an 'emergency committee' playing the turns for a while might work best. Such a committee could invest the time to both have active discussions during the turns and post detailed reports, things it's tough for any one person to do alone.

Fortunately, NobleHelium has already offered to serve as the initial turnplayer and streamer on such a committee, and some of the others players we've contacted have also committed their time. I've not been able to get a hold of Lewwyn yet, but we have an email out to him and I'm sure he could play a key role. Hopefully Sullla could lend his expertise to the committee as well, and of course the turns will still be reported here for opinions from the wider audience.

Unfortunately the turn just rolled, so we lost some opportunity to draft two cities and switch some builds. The good news is we have a little more time this turn for people to raise any objections to the committee and a mandate to get us geared up for the slog of a 3-front war, and we'll get some additional intel on our rivals' intentions via drafts and whips.

The good news is there are still ways we can avoid this war. Hopefully Scooter's diplo skills, plus our enemies seeing we won't be taken over sitting down, will force at least one of them to reconsider. At that point we can shift back to a more traditional turnplayer role during the peaceful period. For now though I think this plan will help ensure the wartime turns to come get the attention they deserve.

What is the tentative ETA for Rifling? Can we get it pre 175 CFC war, if we get money from Uciv?

Well crap.

I still vote we swap every city but MM to Catapults, whip the following turn and overflow into another Catapult which we also whip.

We could always request a pause due to changing to a system of rotating turn players because our main turn player has lost interest.

To lighten up the mood regarding the changing of turn players, here's some C&H:

Turn started 11 hours and so far nobody logged in...I think this is a record for this game...Is war that bad?

Logged into the game to take a look around and grab some screenshots before Noble plays the turn.

The Marble offer to CFC was accepted by them.

Next we had an AP vote proposed by Civplayers to stop the French-CFC war. My assumption, concurred via chat with a few others, is that it's unlikely the French would try to end the war this way without contacting us first, and so we abstained. An abstention is the same as a 'no' vote effectively, but it hopefully sounds better smile

The Nationalism steal and counter-EP mission have already been mentioned above.

As requested, here's the F1 (Domestic Adviser) screen at the start of the turn:

I suspect those builds will look very different by the end.

Here's the F5 (Military Adviser) view:

Our units fit for combat operations are boxed in red. We have 14 knights, 14 muskets, 20 maces, 4 elephants, 7 war chariots (though a few are on dedicated sentry duty), and 14 cats. We've dropped the ball a little bit the last few turns by not accelerating our musket and particularly cat production, but the cupboard isn't bare, and these dozens of strength 8-10 units will be effective versus most enemy units if we can get enough collateral applied.

The only concrete thing I'd like Noble to consider when he plays the turn is whether we should swap some of our war chariots with maces garrisoning interior or non-threatened cities. We lose some speed, but we may very well need all of the stronger units we can get - on the civplayers front in particular a C1 mace is still a respectable unit.

Mostly for my own use, let me also include images of the CFC and Aployton border regions.

CFC:

I've included the number of turns their units would need to land outside Starfall. Since you can't draft cannons, the quickest way CFC can hit us after they get Steel is to whip cannons in a number of cities, like we plan to whip cats next turn. As you can see, if they want to hit us with 10 cannons, and they don't want to double-whip their front cities (and for speed we're possibly talking double 3pop whips), they would need 5t from when their tech came in. That, or T175, whichever is later, is probably the lower bound for CFC's attack if it ends up happening.

Finally, and worryingly, Apolyton:

As you can see, Apolyton has no shortage of cities that can draft rifles and be outside the Gauntlet in 2-3t. My assumption is those cities will be drafted last before their first wave moves in, so even if Apolyton stops drafting prior to our initial combat that only gives us perhaps 3 turns before they land their army.

The worker building a road on the stone tile is a pretty good indicator that they're going to attack from the hill tile 1NW of the Gauntlet.

Played: Pitboss 18 - Kublai Khan of Germany Somalia | Pitboss 11 - De Gaulle of Byzantium | Pitboss 8 - Churchill of Portugal | PB7 - Mao of Native America | PBEM29 Greens - Mao of Babylon

Yep, and that would be a terrific tile to spy pillage if we can.

Note it says the road is due in 3t. Is that a mod issue, or did Apolyton queue the road up after moving the worker this turn? That is a plains hill, right?
