Neat. Before I got into the Civ series I mainly played games like Red Alert and Age of Empires. For the first few years I only played Civ single player on Chieftain - was only later in my teenage years that I started playing multiplayer and moving up the difficulties.
Ever had any personal experience with Civ4 multiplayer? I see you've been following the ISDG in recent months. Not sure if you're kidding about signing off as Dr. Nomadic... would be kind of amusing if you were genuinely him a few years back.

Assume he's going to be really good at C&D, and build a lot of spies?

But we are against revealing starting positions, right? I don't want it at least

Heh, maybe. If he's playing with 2metra I'd definitely expect Spies.

Yeah, I have no particular desire to see the start ahead of the game - I think it's more fun that way. It just seems a bit lame to me be able to find out ahead of time that (for example) you have a Deer-Pig capital and then change your pick to a Hunting civ, or a Cow-Fur-Fish capital and pick up Fishing as well. It just doesn't seem natural to me... in none of the games I played prior to RB did you get that option of advanced knowledge.
Sure, we'll make the most of it if we get the chance, but I'd much rather we all went in equally blind to our starting locations.

Which just means some people will get lucky and get a random advantage if, say, its a two lake fish start.
And what would you be changing anyway? Civs are pretty much chosen on techs first and foremost, so seeing in advance just helps that decision to be more accurate.

You will - you'll either all know, or all not know, and either way it'll be equal

Ha, the "/Dr. Nomadic" was a reference to the fact that I was making a long and off-topic post similar to the ones that he wrote in sullla's pitboss 2 thread, not a reference to a secret identity. I have never tried civ4 multiplayer before, though I might manage to convince my best friend to play against me: I am a terrible player but he is worse.

Damn, Dr. Nomadic being 10 years old would have explained a lot!

I'm not proud that I remembered this, but he was close:

I have met 10 year olds more mature then Dr. Nomadic. Of cause, I would probably have done the same thing if I had joined as a 10 year old, but luckily I had the self-control to spare you the Sullla-worship that was developing in my brain.

Oh wow, that explains everything!
Now, back on topic: I will be ded-lurking this thread, and rooting for you guys the whole time. Unfortunately I will probably not be able to offer more then the advice of a 14 year old who hasn't played civ for months, which you probably should ignore.

With this lineup, and a Dr. Nomadic impersonator on board, I think the other teams should just concede right now.
