I'm going to go ahead and confirm that we will have the draft Saturday August 31st at 10PM EDT. That's 7pm on the west coast, and that's I-don't-know-what for Lewwyn/TT. Really sorry Gaspar that it's a little iffy if you can make it, but I really hope it works out.
I'm going to create the league probably tomorrow when I get some spare time and start sending out the invites. Let's review a few basic settings things for those who care, and we can fine tune as necessary.
1) Let's keep this pretty standard as usual. So since we're doing 12 teams, we'll start: 1QB, 2RB, 2WR, 1 RB/WR/TE flex, 1 TE, 1 D/ST, 1 K. Note the flex allowing a second TE. This isn't super standard, but it's becoming more common given recent increased TE usage. I figure it will be pretty uncommon to see 2 TEs started, but I don't see the harm in giving people the choice.
2) Snake draft. Once I've created the league and everybody has joined, we'll randomize draft order so you have plenty of time to start thinking about your first pick. Swapping draft picks would be fine if you can make an agreement.
3) Schedule is the main thing we'll need to discuss. You don't want to be playing on Week 17, so we need to have a full season and then playoffs all finished by Week16. On the surface, a round robin regular season going from Wk1-11 followed by a Wk12-16 playoff sounds pretty attractive. The problem is that Week 12 is the last week for byes (4 teams off that week), and I think that having by weeks impact the playoffs is just not an option. The other issue is how many teams we want making the playoffs. I would rather not 4 teams, just because you want people to be motivated to make the playoffs to keep interest. When half the league is effectively eliminated by week 7, that's not so fun, and people start paying less attention. 6 teams means bye weeks, which is a bit of a mixed bag (rewards you for doing well, but people not playing isn't as fun. I kinda think that with 12 teams playing, we should let 8 into the playoffs. Regardless of whether we choose 6 or 8 teams, the playoffs are 3 rounds long. One potential solution would be to have the balanced schedule, declare Wk12 an "off week," and have the playoffs 13-16. I don't really want that either, as it gives an unfair boost to players on teams with Wk12 byes (there are 4 teams). So I'm thinking our best solution is this:
* Round Robin + 1 game: W1-11 round robin, W12 against randomly generated opponent, W13-16 playoffs (W13 round 1, W14 round 2, W15-16 championship).
There are other ways to do it, but that seems like the cleanest option. Any strong opinions or alternative ideas?

One significant addendum to the previous post. You cannot alternate between 1 and 2 week rounds in the playoffs. So I'm going to amend my schedule suggestion to this:
* W1-11 Round Robin, W12-13 randomly generated regular season games, W14-16 8 team playoff.

Can we give the "home team" (i.e., the team with the higher seed) a small edge, like +5pts, in the playoffs?
