Thanks for the game, Viqsi. Our civs didn't really interact too much, despite being neighbours, but I always enjoyed looking over and seeing your awesome naming scheme. I liked the part of your thread where you questioned my sanity over whipping - that really was my downfall (plus whipping the wrong stuff). Have a fun rest-of-the-game!

I have been taking pictures, but haven't got a means of uploading them and making them available yet. Once I do, folks might be able to follow the story from that alone. (That's how I was planning on writing reports, anyways! wink )

So. So far I've been left alone, and attempted poaching of the SoL is commencing. I triggered my first GA about three turns ago to try to help that and my research efforts along, which has me ever-so-temporarily at #1 in GNP. biggrin

I've been #1 in population for quite some time, despite being about half Fintourist's size. (He's been too busy conquering, obviously.)

My charge towards Rifling has been briefly diverted - all that's left is Replaceable Parts and then Rifling itself - because I decided just now to make a side-step to Economics first. It's just too perfect for a number of reasons:
* I can get it in two turns,
* My economy is still almost entirely foreign trade routes, so the Customs Houses make sense.
* I don't think anybody has claimed the free Great Merchant yet,
* A swap to Free Market as I'm leaving my GA would be very very nice indeed.

I still don't have galleons or frigates, which everyone else has had for like forever now - heck, I only just now got Caravels! lol But at least I now have Musketmen covering every mainland city and most of my island cities, so I'm not entirely a pushover - just mostly. biggrin

Azza's growing like a weed - he's gone through the entire alphabet and is into numbers now. I think Fintourist is consolidating his gains abroad - he's very badly neglecting his defenses at home (Roland Garros is covered by a single warrior eek, Ace has that and an axeman smoke and so forth), but, well, I don't have a navy and so I can't make him pay for that. frown Sareln's also neglecting mainland defenses (he seems to be using Lemongrass as a strongpoint, and has also reinforced his three eastern island cities, but Cayenne, Tumeric, and Ginger are practically free for the taking), but, again, no navy. And I'm not exactly in a rush to start wars anyways - my economy is still almost entirely foreign trade routes, so I benefit when everybody's getting along. smile

If Fintourist continues to pretend that I can't see his mainland cities, then maybe I might consider building a few Galleons and sailing troops over there to burn down his mainland. But that would take a lonnnnng time and I don't expect he'll remain stupid forever. Still, I should be picking up those techs soon out of prerequisite necessity if nothing else. And if I don't do something about him he's going to, like, win the game. mischief

Sooooooo... I went with the concession.

I had five turns to Rifling when Fintourist and Azza both attacked me with Riflemen (and some Grenadiers) and took my outer arm of cities. They never got any further than that (I immediately switched to Nationalism and started drafting Muskets, and they didn't have guys close enough to make me worry), but my lack of a navy kind of cost me dearly there.

Then shortly thereafter Fintourist also attacked Azza, apparently. Didn't get many cities, but that would mean I'd have a reasonable chance of rebounding if I could fight 'em off. However, Azza wanted to concede, and if he wasn't going to keep pushing then there was little chance of me rebounding, so I went with it.

I'll see if I can throw in more info later.

It was a pleasure reading your thread Viqsi (particularly when I researched Pottery without The Wheel! tongue ), shame you didn't have the time to continue updating.

My attack at the end was pretty much a case of trying to race Fintourist to claiming your island cities, but then he attacked me just to add to the confusion. That was why I offered peace for your 3 eastern island cities, I wanted to take some gains from that and be able to turn around and hit Fintourist with as large a stack as possible before my navy was obliterated by oil based navy.

Well played, and I'd love to read a final game report if you have the time.

Yeah; the problem with that from my perspective was one of "fuck all y'all, you want 'em, come get 'em." smile I mean, I'd spent so much time already benefiting from wars elsewhere, I was perfectly happy to let it happen again. biggrin

Frankly, I would've assumed you'd try throwing everything at Fin anyways. I had ONE caravel and that was the most advanced naval unit I was capable of building, so it's not as though I could counterattack, like, at all. smile

Thank you Viqsi for the game!

Your turn reports were great! Very entertaining! thumbsup It's a huge pity that you had not time to continue with them!

Y'all are invited and encouraged to laugh at me behind my back if I'm way off here. wink (In particular, there may be more substance to the "totally random islands" than I have here. I may want to get an extra Work Boat out for exploration...)

Correct! And also your next read on mining was correct. And BW next also.. Your C&D head-scratching is quite amusing! lol

I was especially happy to see the wonder denied from Sareln!

I don't know if you had the visibility of my island cities, but at that point there were more or less 2 rounds of cities before Ace or RG could be attacked. That means that an attacker would have been forced to sail through my sea area, avoid frigates by doing it and ~5 turn warning is quite enough for drafting a decent stack of defenders if still necessary.. mischief
