Diplomacy Master Thread- Helping Your Opponents Beat Themselves

I don't think we should send novice's message. Since we actually mean it when we say we will want to make peace with them sometime in the future, we should not patronize them, which is what this email does. Just don't send anything. The email doesn't achieve anything.

Just don't touch anything until scooter comes back smile

I like novice's draft a lot. I don't care that it has some very mild snark (it's really not even that much), they jerked us around diplomatically and they are dogpiling us, and they know it. It's certainly not mean or bridge-burning. So I'd like to send it, though I do see some opposition to sending it so I'm not sure I should do so immediately.

Can someone please get the ballpark answer to the Rifling ETA question?

I think Novice's draft is fine.
If you know what I mean.

But what does the email actually achieve for us? It has no upside and only potential downside.

The idea is to let Apolyton know that we will still respond to rational offers even though they're dogpiling us. Entering radio silence could maybe be taken the wrong way.

Ok, let's have some fun then. smile

Best regards,
RB

Is this better?
I have to run.

Since the CFC/CivFr war is still active, we should consider sending them our C&D updates of what we know about their army preparations. Something to keep in mind for later.

1) Keeps us in touch with them. "Should we respond? If so, what should we say?" - IMO it increases the chances they respond to us when we wipe their stack off the map.

2) Potentially gets them talking internally about the war. "Is CFC really the new leaders? Nah of course not. But maybe they are?"

3) All things considered, we were pretty nice actually. We say "let's have some fun smile" but also reiterate that we think this whole thing is pretty ridiculous. If there are team members on their teams who agree with that sentiment, they could start to be sympathetic towards us.

These are all nebulous things and quite possibly meaningless, but I'm a firm believer in always keeping the conversation going. There's very rarely any downside, and in diplo, people seem to like it when you make tons of effort to talk to them, even if you have all the reason in the world to give them the finger. These two teams actually do seem to generally like us, and the minute they start to think "huh, maybe this wasn't a good idea after all" they'll (I think) be a lot more likely to come back to the table with us.

edit: crossposted with novice. but I definitely like novice's first message and don't think it needs edits

ALSO. I kind of want us post that "Oh Sugar..." comment + image in the CFC story thread once they declare war just as a sequel to the Apolyton demogame. wink

Well, if a time comes when Poly is out of the game, it would be nice if they didn't have revenge on the mind.

That said, I still don't see what people like in the second phrase. If I were them and I got that, I'd be mildly offended. I'm preparing my last ditch all-in stab to get the land I need to win the game and the team with twice as many cities as anybody else is telling me that attacking them won't help me win? How stupid do I look? It's obviously the only way to get my foot in the door while preventing RB from running away with it here and now, and we've already told them so point blank.

Imagine we're staged to burn down CFC's border city, they can't stop us, both of us know it, and we get that from them. Not productive? It'll be productive for us thankyouverymuch.

Maybe it's just me, but that's how I read it.
