I'm back! Sorry about the lack of activity recently... nothing much was happening in the game organization thread, so I was spending my free time discovering Kerbal Space Program. (Brilliant game, by the way - if you haven't already, you should try it.)

I have met 10 year olds more mature then Dr. Nomadic. Of cause, I would probably have done the same thing if I had joined as a 10 year old, but luckily I had the self-control to spare you the Sullla-worship that was developing in my brain.

I remember first encountering civ forums at the age of 14 and being overly awed by folks with moderator status and/or post counts in the thousands. I thought it was a badge of honour or something, and implied these people must all have a lot of valuable things to say. I quickly learned there was not necessarily such a correlation.

Nowadays on the rare occasions I check my post count, I just think "man... have I really spent that much time at this place?"

Now, back on topic: I will be ded-lurking this thread, and rooting for you guys the whole time. Unfortunately I will probably not be able to offer more then the advice of a 14 year old who hasn't played civ for months, which you probably should ignore.

Glad to have you with us! And hey, any advice is welcome - there's always some possibility we can miss things, but even if not, we can explain why we made the decisions we did.

So, we have our snake pick order... we choose 5th in the first round, and 6th out of the second round. Not too bad I guess... it would have been nice to be a little further back in the first round, but this is fine. I honestly prefer the back of the snake pick to the front, at least in games where there are no banned leaders/civs (plenty of good options) and not too many players. You get a better chance of synergizing your leader and civ by being at the back of course, but the main reason I like it is that you get an insight into what most of the other teams are thinking before you finalize your first decision.

Anyway, 5th isn't too bad. There's no way we can't get a good Financial leader or an Agri/Wheel civ on our first pick if we want. There's a slight possibility of Inca or India being available on our first pick; if either of them are, they most certainly won't be on our second pick. There's a decent possibility of China or Egypt being available on our first pick; a low possibility of them still being available on our second pick. A reasonable possibility of Pacal, Willem, or Huayna Capac being available on our first pick; only a minute possibility on our second pick.

Hmm, lots to think about. I'll be very curious to see what the first four teams pick, particularly the new ones I know nothing about.

Speaking of which... anyone know anything about Kurumi, HBHR, Raptorous, or Barteq? Also, Oxyphenbutazone posted in our thread a few days back, but is now apparently joined to another team...?

I do know DMOC. It's been quite a while since I've played with him, but last time I encountered him he was a reasonably solid player. Will be interesting to see how well he does in this game.

I note that apparently we'll be viewing our starting location before the snake pick, and Plako mentioned that's still a couple of days away. So no sense getting too bogged down with our civ pick right now, since that will be somewhat resource-dependent. Our leader pick is unlikely to be influenced by the starting location, though, so we can keep discussing that.

Specific rules:
1) No logging in outside of your half of the turn during war for whatever reason, no double-moves during war (and turn before)
2) No peaceful double-moves, either (i.e. we play as sequential turn whenevr doing otherwise can give player whatever advantage. We do not play 2 turns in a row, we wait at least 2 hours between turns
3) No city gifting unless returning to the previous owner
4) No diplo before in-game contact
5) No changing production, research etc just after turn rolls (to hide what you are doing)
6) No turning to AI
7) Generally, no pauses and reloads, unless special circumstances
8) Play for your own team's victory. Don't deliberately cripple your nation for another's gain. ("Free" cities gold, etc.)
9) DO NOT BE A JERK!

1) Every team will have their own spoilers thread – which hopefully be a lot of fun to read and have tons of useful into . In the (unlikely) case you would not love it, we would ask at least for updates on starting location, turn 10, 20, 50, 100 etc.
2) Every team needs a fancy/awesome/impossible-pronounce-or-remember name. So start thinking now!
