Works for me.

Huh?

I am not "holding the turn." The turn's just happen to take about 2 hours a piece to play, between combat sims, tactical and strategic decision-making and updating my thread. I started to play the turn at about 11:00 PM and logged off at midnight. I still hadn't done any of said combat sims and only half of the decision-making, so I went to sleep. Then, I finished the turn in the morning. This has happened to me twice in a row because my half of the turn split is starting late at night for me.

In the future Halvgud, let's try to resolve an issue like this via PM. Since we're playing gentlemen's rules, it's not such a big deal, but I shouldn't have to discuss our situation in the tech thread.

It's definitely not cheating to want to have the chance at the end of each turn to react to subtle things around the world! It just creates an annoying metagame when someone does this because then everyone attentive may feel like they have to, to stay competitive.

If that's not what you're doing, but just breaking up your turn play because of your schedule, it's all cool, carry on.

I thought you were insinuating that I was switching around tiles and production just as the turn rolled over, my bad.

Halvgud? Is anyone available to pause? ~2:30 left on the clock.

Full disclosure: I accidentally clicked on TBB's thread, immediately backed out without seeing anything.

I'm pausing for Halvgud. Hopefully he's not in a diplo screen...

I was wondering what happen but it seems is just the usual.

Anyway the concession thing the Boldy was talking about a looong time a go, nobody has an opinion about it?

Well, here's one way that this issue has been handled in another current game (pb13):

  • At any point in the game, players can state in their thread that they desire to "end the game". I would stress that the intention is for this is used when players think that the game needs to end due to a clear victor, not because they feel their own personal chances are less than optimal.

  • When 2/3 of the living players have stated a desire to "end the game", as game admin I will judge the state of the game every 10 turns:

    - If 3 of the players that want to continue have realistic shot (over 10% chance) at winning game always continues
    - If 2 or less of the players that want to continue have a realistic shot it becomes a judgment call of the admin. He asks himself if the game is worth continuing based on the game atmospehere. If not winner is declared and game will end.

I will be cautious about a potential concession, and take care to make any decisions with forethought and impartiality.

Note: I am not advocating for this, but it is one method of resolution that has recently been accepted by some of our players at RB. Secondly, do we even have a game admin?

Not related, the frequent pausing is getting a little frustrating. I've almost come to expect it each turn, which is 100% not what I want to expect each turn. I've come close this week myself to running down the timer, but have communicated in this thread and have played the turn before needing anyone to pause when this has been an issue for me, so my conscience is clean. I'm not sure if it is that my expectations that are misaligned, or if this is actually becoming something that we need to address. However, I do recognize turn splits and time zones are realities, so if this is something that is a concern, just let us know, please.
