[SPOILERS] The Rise of Lewger: A BacoN of Bacon Revenge (bacOn bAcoNbAcon) Bacon

im ok w/ barracks if it lets us skip mysticism.

w/ gems we might have a shot at COL. we'll want it anyways, we're spiritual so we can do weird things like revolting to caste for 5 turns just to run an artist specialist to pop borders, that would allow us to skip mysticism for a long time even if we aren't able to found the religiion. but with the gems we might have a decent shot of founding it.

I think AH>Writing>Math next. Math chops will be great for us. I also am considering going Granary after worker in the capital instead of Axe. The granary is just worth so much with that huge food surplus in the capital. The faster we get the granary up the bigger our snowball. This also makes me consider the cap chop for the settler going into the granary, growing to 4 and then 2 pop whipping settler instead of one.

This means maybe no axe right away for the south city unless we pull it out of BacoN. I was hoping to start a warrior there though and have it upgrade to a spear.

When I log in today I'll get a screenie of the south so we can decide where we are planting the city and how aggressive we want to be about it. That might change our military build plans.

Oh looks like Jestacore settled a city this turn.

South plant:

A = On a hill and gets the clam first ring. May be more defensible than B, but also more aggressive from Azza's perspective.
B = Claims desert where iron might end up being. Doesn't get Clams but invalidates the plains spot for Azza next to clams and copper(tho he could settle one south then). Also gets pigs first ring.
C = Gets clams and fish, but neither first ring. Works with B but not with A.
D = Fish first ring. Works with A. Forces E or a city 1 SW of E.
E = I would prefer 1 N of E so that we can share the corn, but E might be better for the dotmap, or 1 SW of E. Still need to defog to be sure. But needs to be kept in mind when planting south.

We could also plant 2N of A on the riverplains. That would get the pigs and the FPs and would allow for 1S of C which still gets fish first ring and claims clams second ring. It would be much more defnsible and cause almost no conflict with Azza, howwever it also doesn't push the border with him very much and he can easily get clams first ring on the plains site. I think the plains site is a bit like Beowulf from last game. If he gets it he threatens the city north and the city 1 south of C. While I think there is some benefit to this (Azza won't attack us unless provoked and sets a clear easy peaceful border) it does give up land. But I still want to create that good border with Azza.

My preference is settling B. I say we let him settle the clams 1 S of the plains. Azza will feel fine with that and will not try to push past B. This creates backfill in terms of C (or 1 south of C) and we settle E or 1 SW of E. Settling B, C and E orphans only one tile, a river plains forest Or we go B, 1S C, 1SW E and plant a filler city on the coast N-NE of E. I favor this if we find seafood off the coast. In any case, not settling A signals to Azza peace.

I'm not worried about Azza longterm. Hell we already have more cities than him and he's IMP. Instead I think this game we should focus on no wars for as long as possible. As long as we prevent him from settling the Plains site with the clams and copper we should be okay. If he settles 1 South of that, great. Culturally and tactically that is a much less threatening city.

We should settle A or B. What do you guys think?

So the path to CoL through Math and Currency is pretty beaker expensive. Now math and currency are great techs for us, but if anyone goes PH>CoL they can easily beat us to confu. So optionally we go Myst>Med>PH>writing>CoL for our next tech path. We skip AH until after confu. This has the benefit of giving us access to monuments and is much cheaper. We also gain tech towards Monarchy.

I keep getting booted from the game every 4 minutes for some reason with my vpn on so I didn't count up the beakers yet, but the difference in beakers of the two paths is around 700 beakers...

So again thoughts?

I think math>currency is too useful for us to be skipping in relation to the other techs available. 700b is a lot, but its also just over the cost of currency which we'd want anyway. If we go that route, is Oracle still feasible?
Also, what turn do you think the whole thing would take?
I like B more then A, as a safer and less likely to cause a grudge war. If we think we can get away with A though, its definitely a better border.

so we're doing AH after pottery, going to skip mysticism as long as possible. hoping to grab confuscianism - COL through currency. caste will be amazing for us anyway since we are SPI. with the gems and some quick cottages we'll have a decent chance.

if we do land it we'll have to figure out a way to get a prophet - monopoly on religion on this continent will make a very nice shrine smile.

anyway we still have a dozen tons or so, but I think we're leaning towards city A first. I don't like the desert city anyway.

#1 in food, barely off #1 in GNP. Lewwyn you are doing a superb job w/ the micro so far, just lovely.

if you look closely you can see marble close to scooter and stone close to jester (sorry can't do resources and culture in same map for some reason). we discussed settling towards marble, but that doeesnt seem feasible to me frown. mapmaker wants scooter to have marble, jester stone, and us and azza to be out of luck, apparently.

good news - all known civs have 2 cities, to our 3. all seemed to have settled 2nd city away from us.

long term - after we settle our azza border to the south, I favor expanding west, rather than north. this is a juicy river and will make some nice cities once the jungles are chopped. just as important, we can box azza in, or at least cut him off from the north. lets force him to declare on us out of desparation smile.

I renamed some Bacons and named us the Bacon empire - I didn't want to be the Chinese all game.

I seem to remember Ruff had a game where he named all cities 'Madrid'. I wonder what his trick was?

Azza you fucking douchenozzle.

Are you intending to settle Site A? cut us off from our FPs? What is you malfunction man? Why do you insist on settling cities towards your opponent and starting a grudge match? What is up with that terrible copper city? granted I don't know what is in the south side of BFC, but I do know you had a beautiful copper city to your west. Instead you settle 6 tiles from your capital. OMFG. THIS IS WHY YOU GET ATTACKED.

I fucking hate starting next to Azza because he never learns and always ends up in a grudge war.

So next turn I'm moving my warrior on top of his warrior on the hill and I will see if he has workers mining his copper. If I can snipe his workers or move them off the copper before its finisihed (a la PB8 iron) we can slow down his copper.

Why Azza?
