Double copper, then split the workers onto separate forests.

Yes you had me going on the diplo deal... I wouldn't put anything past you buddy.

Regarding the 80g for copper trade, did that start while you were still at war? If so, probably worth it. But really that's Oxy missing the memo on propping up his enemy's enemy, imo.

Do you have a settler built already? Not worth it to start one if not.

Dual copper workers, separate chopping workers. Got it. Also I have no settler so none shall be built at this time.

That's...an accurate statement after the fact. Perhaps I shall tone down the in-game jokes a bit?

80g for Copper/Crab started while still at war with Suttree. Is there a memo I should be aware of, or simply the common sense that one does not prop up/support the enemy of my enemy, even if he is at war with my enemy?

Well there's nothing printed on Realms Beyond letterhead, but consider this example from Pitboss 8:

BigLew is up against Azza's Rome, and Azza just got Iron Working

The Dutch, being of sound mind, don't want Rome to get Iron. A handful of turns later, it looks grim for Azza. Then this happened.

In reality, at the time Azza had no strat resources hooked at all. The only reason he wasn't wiped from the map at that point was these guys...

Azza fought off the BigLew attack solely due to the Zulu horse gift. At the time, BigLew was looking like a strong candidate to win the game. That single resource gift turned a decisive war into a stalemate, and more or less ruled out a BigLew victory. This is why Suttree's competitors (some of whom surely have spare metal by now) should be giving you metal for free.

But that's just my take on it, I'm sure Suttree would disagree!

P.S. not saying 80g was a bad choice. Just that it's bad diplomacy and/or metagaming on Oxy's part. That 80g would have been better spent getting you to feudalism!

While we're on the topic of conventional wisdom that many greens miss, there this gem from gaspar

So some times an apparent (quick) victory can be denied by outside intervention. Hm. Oxy simply sought to get what he could from the deal, in a sense kicking me while down and giving me a cheese cake at the same time? Could be that 80g made him able to tech something a turn or two faster to get on a level with suttree. Also, Gaspar may be on point, would be interesting to have a diagram involving those 10% where it is valuable with Academy.

Anyhow, turn has been made, here are the results:

That's...the beginning of an army. With the healing powers of Nebuchadnezzar himself. Yikes.

Somehow, I've climbed to the glorious 7th place in GNP rating.

4/10 BGN/Retep
3/10 Suttree

Moved axe and chariot to grant protection for worker(s).
Should I continue whipping units like a madman?

Yes, keep whipping. :-)

Ok, should I attempt catapult whipping since they can wreck collateral havoc?

The turn has rolled, now here is the tale according to crewmembers aboard the flying russian:

I wonder if it pays more to continue scouting Retep or if I should move towards Xenu and see what he has hidden up north.
Copper is finished. Sogic Lense went to the border to chop down some trees there. Super Understatement is closer to DZ. Both starting to chop next turn and finishing one turn before peace is complete with Retep/Xenu. However, the smiles on those people dressed in Suttree's finest armor does not bring a smile to my face. It may have something to do with their bright and shiny weapons. 11 axeman, 4 spearman, 2 catapults, 1 chariot general. scared

catapults don't suck, but remember that they can't kill. You need enough "hitters"- other units that can kill- to make sure that collateralled units don't get a chance to heal. You can't kill unless you attack out...

I'd keep it simple and stick with normal defenders for now.
