Have you been in contact with other nations, or are we your first? (No shame either way, of course!) You're the first team that we've met, though we're likely to run into our eastern neighbours soon. We'll gladly let you know who they are when we do - perhaps we could even enjoy a little ménage à trois together if the mood feels right.

We have no desire to engage in war at any time in the near future - our soldiers get more than their fill of activity at home. As such, we'd be glad to agree to a mutual pact of non-aggression of almost any length you desire. Perhaps we could start with turn 50? Please feel free to suggest anything longer or shorter as you wish.

Are we going to have a more humoristic approach or are we going to have a strict diplo? I've never been diplopositioned before, but I think I may have a go on this team. I know both Slaze and Maga (the last one I got on skype and facebook).

Lions, why does it have to be lions? I think 1N is the best move, though we could get screwed by a die roll. At least we'd have a promotion to heal with. Anything else sets the scouting too far back as I see it, and it's not like there aren't lions around if we retreat anyway.

Not sure if we can keep up the humoristic approach indefinitely - there's only so many innuendos you can make - but we can give it a try a least at first. For me it's quite good because it limits the possible length of my messages (I have a tendency to be rather verbose if I'm being serious). Plus it's amusing to write, which is a bonus.

Good to know you're friends with Maga. You'd be most welcome to take up the diplo reigns with them if you desire.

City 1W of the gold would be very good with corn + gold + horses.

It's reasonable, but it does lose the Oasis, and doesn't have the Corn in its first ring. I was thinking maybe sticking with 1S of the Corn and grabbing the Horse with a double-farmed flood plains city might work. Or the Wheat, though that's more awkwardly placed. But we'll have to test it to be sure. Thanks for the idea.

I've sent the greeting via email from our team account (orgynized) to their team account (Maga.CIV) as listed in the tech thread. I'd be happy to leave that to you in the future if you'd like. Not sure what the best way to go about it is - perhaps forwarding the messages? I've tried sharing an account on Gmail before, and it really doesn't like it when multiple logins are happening from opposite sides of the world all the time (it tends to put your account on lockdown until the original owner resets it). Anyone know of any other solutions?

If you want to send a heads up to Maga on Skype that's fine, but try not to get involved in a longer discussion about the game if you can. Chat is significantly different to email when you're on a team - when you're playing by yourself it really doesn't matter either way, but when playing on a team it's easy to get carried away and start mentioning things or making agreements that the rest of the team had no say in. Slow-paced emails that everyone can have a say in before they're sent are good for that reason.

Obviously this early in the game there's not really much you could reveal that's sensitive (save for sending a screenshot), but it's still possible for a NAP or border negotiation to get out of hand. For the record, I wouldn't make any agreements about borders until we've found out where they are, and I'd wait to discuss with the team before implying we'll commit to a NAP beyond turn 50 (assuming they make that proposal).

Chat's quite good early on for getting information about contacts, geography, and locations though - and of course later it's great for discussing larger partnerships and military alliances. So it does have its place, we just have to be careful to keep on topic with the points we've agreed in advance to discuss as a team, and/or have as many team members online and involved in the chat as possible. (Not necessarily in the same chat window, but certainly being updated on the side as to what's going on.)
