[SPOILERS]The Tyrant realizes that once the world burns it gets really boring....

T140 - I wonder, should we even fight over this shitty ice ball city?

Silver is going to be worth 2 happiness everywhere soon and marble will probably fuel our economy since we have the economic output of modern day...Byzantium...and the expenses of the good ole' US of A. So we basically need hax to research anything.

For anyone who remembers my incessant whining about fail gold building from PBEM 29G, why do you remember that game? Go away! neenerneener

Anyway since I screwed up the hammer count to get a 2 pop whip of the crossbow like I wanted this turn I've set the city to barracks for a turn and will 2 pop whip that. I set the city to avoid growth so we can regrow to size 5 next turn -- I never use that feature because I'm terrible at this game so if I've misunderstood how that works hopefully someone will point it out and correct me. The idea is that the whip overflow from the barracks will mostly finish the crossbow that is at 23/60 in the queue (I think that's the right numbers anyway). In any case, we need units here if we're going to have to remove an errant Kuro city by our marble/silver. The signs also indicate we need more workers up here and we still need a work boat for Suck Magic, although I'm tempted to whip the work boat in Suck Magic anyway, feed yourself hippies.

Oh, a note for future reference, I think the spear in Suck Magic is useless up here, looks like Kuro has no horses and hasn't traded for any. Great!

Down south:

Suttree has moved up quite a few horse archers to his (constantly renamed) western border city. I'm not sure if he's up to something or if it's a response to me moving a few units onto the border covering workers. He's probably up to something. He hasn't declared war on us yet in this game and I don't think he's declared on WilliamLP yet either, so his inner warmonger must be itching something fierce. But he's still at war with Oxy so who knows. Maybe Oxy is invading him...we should scout that area one day. But that requires an additional chariot since we have to keep an eye on WilliamLP with the one that's already over there. Blah. Hey Suttree why don't you just kill the Reds so Ceil doesn't have to keep wasting time on this game? I'm sure he'd appreciate it.

Demos. One thing about it, our food stat isn't as horrible as it looks, we're pretty competitive for 5th place. We're not far behind the next couple teams above us at all. If we could lay off the whip we'd surpass them eventually. But we have to whip everything because production still isn't great, even with adding forges in a few cities already.

Also, our civ sucks. So now we're up to date. Any other questions? Ideas? Suggestions (like forget building infrastructure and go build HAs instead? And wreck someone? That sounds fun. Losing slowly isn't so much fun, losing quickly might be better right? No? Damn.)

Where is Kuro trying to plant his city?? He didn't exactly put the road on a beeline, opting instead to hug the coast. Also, where does that road spur to the NW go? Might want to take the chariot for a quick exploration trip while that's all outside of Kuro's borders.

We pretty clearly need the silver for +2 happiness, and the marble for economy. Sooo, yeah. We should fight for that, if needed. We just have to have a galley at the sheep/clam city with reinforcements, or even better, a trireme that Kuro can't likely counter yet. But we're broke, and this city isn't exactly going to make us any money.

It would be kinda fun to drop a crossbow and chariot off a galley and pillage all of those ice roads. devil

Is Ceil playing for Halvgud now? If so, we'd probably be better off killing him sooner rather than later, before he can really make things tough on us. His culture forks three of our cities. I don't want him trying to take advantage of that.

Given your obscene happy cap, why bother with the double whip in Stars and Garters?

Ceil seems to be playing the odd turns here and there when Halvgud can't cover it from what I can tell. But I don't know. I think if he had been pressed into full time duty that he would have posted it in the tech thread.

That pillaging scheme sounds like fun but probably not a good idea. Kuro's power levels are pretty low right now, which makes him a nice target to beat up on. I don't want to do anything to arouse panic unnecessarily and lead to a buildup. Maybe it's better to let him settle the city and take it later, and use the settler elsewhere. The wheat/tundra pure awesome spot ( nope ) is available still and wouldn't cost as much in distance maintenance. And would be at least marginally productive, even if it doesn't grab any useful extra resources. I guess we could trade the spare furs. Anyway, maybe it's better to leave Kuro alone for now and try to take a bigger bite later. It would shorten our defensive borders in the north quite a bit if we did that. lol

I can't talk of killing everyone though, and the Reds have to die first. So...I guess we should talk and make a plan soon. Do we want to push economy (and infrastructure), which just begs for us to at least tech Mono and spread religion/swap to OR. Or do we just admit what we are, a mostly non-contender, and be happy with a horrible economy and try to swallow our two smaller neighbors (first the Reds and then Kuro) and hope that enough land will get us back into this thing? I don't know where we'll get the military units we need to accomplish both of these conquests...well, I do know, it comes from the whip, the whip, and more whip....but our economy will be so destroyed by the end of it that we'll really be out of the running to win this if we aren't already.

So...time to set some goals. Go economy and peace or crush our economy with war? Or do you see a third option?

Third option: Sell the game to Brick and walk away.

The turn has rolled and Kuro settled a city on his turn. I noticed on civstats that after you played last turn that he logged in real quick for a peek, so I was pretty sure he'd settle this turn. Which means that he didn't settle on the hill, but rather where his troops were last turn with fish first ring and silver second ring. Flat terrain makes for easy killing with crossbows. hammer

Ok, so, longterm planning: I see very little profit to extending ourselves further with this terrible so-called economy by trying to fight Kuro right now. Much better to take developed, riverside cottages closer to home, even if they are more expensive in the number of troops needed to capture. But that is almost certainly inferior in the next 25-30t to courthouses and markets. And also boring. How many cats can we put together in 6-8 turns, and how many xbows?

Do we have some spears around our city next to suttree? He has proven to be opportunistic up until now. I can see him taking a cheap shot and then suing for peace. Rename our city "do you wanna die" or something like that. It's still in keeping with our awful Toadies theme and lets him know we see his stack. Really, we can't kill him, but we can keep him from winning. Maybe it's good to let him know it, just in case. smile

Not to play a spoiler, but I think we're going to be in grudge mode for a little while....

Also, with apologies, I think NobleHelium has died. Not the person, the chariot. It's the only thing that makes sense.

We need a naming scheme for new crossbows, and another naming scheme for catapults. And maybe another one for galleys and triremes.

Details later tonight. And photos. It's fun time!

So, suttree invaded? GG, buddy.

Nope, not him. Maybe further north. And west. And ice-ballish.

More news at eleven.

Just think of anyone still alive in the game and ask, who would you most want to be at war with, for fun, not for profit. STOP. hammer TIME!
